Issue with .OBJ files

I'm trying to export a .OBJ file from Inventor into another software, however when I do so it always throws up errors. I have no issues creating the file, but when I try to open it with anything except Inventor I receive an error. What's causing this, and how do I fix it?

Try different Save As Options. 
Maybe there is some setting that works on your other software

I've tried a few settings but still faced the same problem. As it happens on multiple softwares, I suspect it's an issue with Inventor, rather than the other software.

For additional information, I'm using Inventor 2023. The software I'm trying to import it into is Leica TruView.

Googling Leica TruView, it seems to be for point cloud data.

Are you trying to export an attached point cloud data (RCP/RCS files) in Inventor to OBJ?
Then that won't be possible, as point cloud data are just points and do not contain any solids or meshes.

No, I'm trying to import a model created in inventor to Leica TruView. This means exporting it as a .OBJ file, as that is the only file type they can both handle.

I'm using a simple 1x1x1m cube to test, but am hoping to export more complicated objects and assemblies. These are made in inventor, so are not point clouds as far as I'm aware

If it came from a solid body and saved as OBJ file. Then it should export as a mesh.
I think your issue is with the Leica TruView. It may have limited OBJ support.
What other software have you used to verify the exported OBJ? 
I tried an online OBJ viewer (Online OBJ File Viewer) provided by Google search and it opens my own 1x1x1 cube without issue.

I used the built-in Windows 3d object viewer, which also threw up errors. That's why I think it's an Inventor issue

I also did that and was able to view the OBJ (see attached, exported using INV 2026.3)

Maybe you need to reset your Inventor. Or a reinstall might help?
