ISO and mm to default.. not working.

Hi.

I tried the method:

Tools -> Application Options -> File -> Configure Default Template -> Millimeters and ISO check, -> OK -> Overwrite -> Apply

Then, I closed the software and open it again (without any additional part). The inches and ANSI is back..

How I can get the MM and ISO to as default?

Thank You.

Sounds like you do not have proper Windows permissions to write to the registry as those settings are saved to the registry upon setting them...

Your user account should have local admin rights allowing you proper registry permissions.. Do you have an IT department that can set that up for you properly?

Hi!

The change you are doing only afects the active document.

You have to configure the default templates:

Go to My Home and confugure the templates for mm and ISO, then says yes to overwrite the default templates:

Thats exactly what he is doing already.. You just access it differently..  accessing it through my home or application options is exactly the same.. (just 2 doors to the same room Smiley Wink )

He is stating that he is making the change but its not being saved when he restarts again..

OOOh.... it's true.... i was thinking about Document settings, and not about Aplication Options.

well... anyway, you can solve this mannually...., just go to the templates folder:

  • delete the English templates within the "Templates" root folder (the files, not the English sub folder and the files inside it )
  • Go to metric sub-folder, copy the metric templates you need
  • paste it in the "Templates" Root folder...

and that's it.

Thank you for your answers, but it did not work..

I went (my comp. is in Finnish, so I am not sure is those names right) :
 C -> Users -> Public -> Public Files -> Autodesk -> Inventor 2014 -> Templates/Templates.Base

And after that I deleted ANSI/English files and copied the EURO-file to the Templates and Templates.Base-roots.

Did I do something wrong here?

Hi!

When you click new, what you have?

Can you post here an image of the window?

You have to have something like this:

But I think something changed :).
When I try to make a drawing, it automatically annotates in mm. It used to annotate in inches.

There is now something wrong: when I try to make a drawing from assembly, it does not make it.. i have to figure it out why.

HI!

I think you already messed too much to solve a very simple thing.

Your windows account has administrator previleges?

Do this:

log in an administrator account

change UAC to the lower level

Perform a Repair instalation and then do this:

Hello @Anonymous I see that you are visiting as a new member to the Inventor Forum.
Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Reviewing the good advice, make sure you have administrator rights.

Something that shouldn't be affecting this but is helpful is to set your Active Project to Read-Write for future settings to be saved.

Projects.png

You can try to create a new part from the template list, then change the units in the Document Settings.

DocSettingsUnits.png

Then Save Copy As Template and override the existing template.

SaveCopyAsTemplate.png

Start a new Assembly and Create a new Part it will ask you what template to use.

CreatePartTemplate.png

There might be something else going on with your ability to write to the registry like previously stated, which you might try the Reset Utility or Repair Install, but hope that helps.

@Anonymous were you able to change the settings and keep the inches at bay? Or did they return again with a vengeance?
