Is there a quick way to add a lid to fit my box base?

I have created my first enclosure base for a project. I am wondering if there is a function that can produce the outline of a lid to suit. I need to end up with 2 parts - the Base attached plus a lid.

I am using Inventor LT 2020.

Derive your Base part into a new file and create a lid based off the surfaces of the derived part.

Hi Igor,

I am brand new to Inventor (just been using for a couple of weeks). How do I derive the base and create lid based on it?

I managed to save the base then create a new part and select "Manage -> Derive" and screen is as below. What do I need to do to create the lid with outline same as Top face of the box from here.

You have to select the very right button on the top row - derived body as surface. But I would start with small and simple parts for practice to start with. In a week time you will get a better handle of the Inventor.

Can you zip and Attach the Base.ipt file rather than image file?

This is what happens when a new thread is started on an old problem.

The OP is using Inventor LT - no assemblies in LT.

I do not have assemblies. I mentioned in this post I am using LT 2020 version of Inventor.

Thank you so much. Your help was far more than I expected and finally clears up for me how to have multiple solids in a part file. This is very helpful, do you offer any paid online courses in addition to the videos on Youtube (more of a course than individual topics). 

I digress a little but I found a basic course at "cadtrainingonline.com" that offers basic course and apparently includes 3 years use of Inventor (not LT) which would support assemblies, cable looms and sheetmetal. Do you know anything about this? I'm not sure what the "gotcha" might be here because the course with included software is less than $600 USD but a subscription to the non LT version of inventor is nearly $3000 per year. There must be something I am missing here?
