.ipt to .stp convertor for non-Inventor users.

We have just installed a new optical inspection system which is capable of comparing an item being inspected to the CAD model. The system cannot import native Inventor 2024 files but can work with STEP or IGES files.

Is there any product available which will convert the Inventor part file to STEP or IGES for users who do not have Inventor? I believe that Inventor Viewer stopped at Inv2023 & the read-only Inventor 2024 install does not allow export. I have Drawing Porter which works with Inv2024 but will only find assembly files.

Any suggestions of software that our QA people could use to convert files?

Hi!

I believe there's no free software that can open Inventor files and translate to STEP.

Hi,

If you use Vault, non-Inventor users can trigger generation of Step-files from within the client.

We have never got round to installing Vault.

As CC commented, there seem to be no free converters, I've tried an on-line converter which failed & I've been offered CrossManager at £2k/seat.

Inventor includes the Task Scheduler tool that can read through a directory of Inventor files and export to various formats.

You might look at it as a semi-automatic way to create stp files once the designs are ready for production/QA.

Task scheduler could work. This is for existing files so it will find a lot of files that have not migrated to 2024.

FreeCAD had an addon for importing Inventor files, not sure which versions of inventor it supports but I remember it working quite well for parts (not assemblies). You can use it to export to STEP.

It would be easier to ask the original designer to export the file manually, or if you have Vault to export on check-in

You can use the Inventor Task Scheduler to mass-export a bunch of files to STEP also.
