IPT Cyclic Dependency

Hi All,

I'm currently modelling a new IPT which will then have dimensions linked to another part previously designed. When I go to link these parameters I am getting the error of

"Selected component was rejected since it causes a cyclic dependency"

I don't understand why I am getting this error as the new part is not previously linked to anything which the old part is linked too?

does this make sense?

Is there a way for me to find out why I'm getting this error message, and how I find out what parts are linked with what and how I break these links?

FYI: I am using Autodesk Inventor 2017

Kind Regards.

If you can post the files it would make troubleshooting much easier.  It doesn't make sense as you describe it, so there is probably something you're missing, or Inventor has a bug.

Hi! Most likely there are corrupted parameters in the part leading to erroneous relationship. The fact that the error comes up shows there is a bug. In general, Inventor has the ability to detect a cyclic relationship (A -> B -> A) at the time when it is about to occur. The error usually means the cyclic dependency went undetected (which is wrong).

Could you attach the example so we can take further look?

Many thanks!
