ipart with different fold direction

Hi Inventor users

I want to create an ipart of sheet metal plate with 2 members

the first member fold to one direction 30 deg and the second member to the opposite direction

fold.GIF

 

the first hunch is to change the angle at member 2 to -30 deg

but I get an error

the flip side button at the dialog box is grayed

any idea????

Hello,

 

Could you supress the first flange. Create the other flange. So you have 2 flanges.

 

Then in iParts supress and unsupress the flanges so you have 2 members and the flange on each side.

 

I am not on a computer with Inventor. But I'm sure this would work?

It looks like you're creating your flanges with a fold, which involves creating a sketch on the initial face feature. Have you tried putting your sketch for your second flange on the opposite side?

 

Personally I'm not a fan of folds. Prefer to use the flange feature, in which case, the edge you select to apply your flange to is the side it will 'extrude from'. Much quicker to use and easier to control.

This way of solution is not smart

I don't want to do another feature an then suppress it .

it also not working the direction of the feature exrude/fold/flange is alwys factory

even when i work at member scope

That is the only way I can think of at the minute. 

 

When I get on Inventor I will have a look at another way to do it.

@eladm Can you continue modeling your 2 different parts so we can see what the differences are between them?

 

As stated already the solution to the question/examples you have posted so far is to suppress the one flange and create another..

I'm sorry you don't feel thats the smart way but right now Inventor does not allow you to have flange angles less than 0 or greater than 180 and you also cannot get access to the flange direction or are you able to do it through the fold function either..

 

But if we can see a more complete version of your 2 parts then there may be another solution..

I don't see a problem with supressing the flanges.

 

@eladm You might need them to be iParts. But if not it might be easier to just model them both up as individual parts?

 

Seeing as there is only 2 members.

@Thomas_Savage Tom, It was a valid solution to the problem as posted to me also..

Of course without knowing what else the user wants we are just assuming.. 

Hopefully they will come back and show the rest of the model so we can offer better help..

Hi! Unfortunately, Fold flip control cannot be captured on the iPart table. If you use Flange instead, you could control the flip direction by using +- angular values. In your case, member1 can be 30deg and member2 can be -30deg.

Thank you very much for your answer

one more thing , I think it relaitve to your answear. When you edit the fold command the flip direction button is greayed out , why ?

Also at some other features some button cannot be edit ,for example at extrude command you can't change from solid to surface

Hi! I suspect it has something to do with downstream feature compute stability. Fold transforms an existing body by adding new geometry. If the side of flip was allowed to change, most downstream features on the folded body would probably fail to compute. This is a limitation right now. I will follow up with the project team to see if this is something we could unblock.
