iPart will not publish to CC

Dear Sirs,

I posted this problem in the Customization forum, but have no success with solving it.

Maybe someone in here can help?

Here's the problem:

When publishing an iPart to the CC, it fails and gives this error:

"There are external dependencies found in the document. Please remove the dependencies then proceed with this command."

I already found a fix (Links on the Tools Pallet), but the command on the tool pallet doesn't exist in IV 2010 Suite. A programmer sent me a Macro which, after running said it succeeded. But when I subsequently tried Publishing the part, it failed, giving the same Error.

I can successfully Publish the same part IF it is NOT an iPart, so the problem appears to be in the iPart.

Does anybody have any idea how to hunt-down the cause of this problem?

Thanx

Hi! Could you share the file here? I guess in the iPart factory, you have derive features or there is a link to another part. When being published to CC, an iPart factory has to be self-contained and independent. There should not be any link to other files.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

Find attached the file representing the latest attempt.

Please tell me how you check this file and fix it, so I can repeat the process whenever I need to.

Thanx

Hi! I took a look at the part and I got prompted to resolve BBarGrating19-W-4_&.bmp files three times. I think these are the reference links preventing the iPart from being published to CC.

The bmp files are referenced by some Appearance styles. Just delete those unused appearance styles and the link would be broken.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,
Thanx for the quick turn-around!

1. I already suspected that bmp file, b/c it's been a problem for some time, even on this recent clean install of IV. Also, added a directory in the Projects for finding the file; besides adding the file to the default directory. So why still the problem?

2. I already purged all the relevant styles from the ipt b, so why did you still see them in the ipt?

3. How did you determine that bmp was the problem?
4. How can I determine the problem in IV 2010 Suite next time it occurs?

5. How can I purge this file of the 'offender' in IV 2010 Suite?

6. Why does this Publishing Error occur only when it's an iPart?

Thanx ... Chris

Hey Johnson,

Any chance you can instruct me on how to do what you advised me to do in Inventor 2010 Suite?

Here's your advice: "Just delete those unused appearance styles".

What are "appearance styles"?
How do I delete them?

Thanx

Hi! I managed to find a machine with Inventor 2010. It is a very old release. I want to make sure the workflow I suggested works for you. Here is what you need to do. Open the iPart file and go to Manage tab -> Styles Editor -> Purge. Then save the file. This will remove all unused appearance styles, which have link to a bmp file. After that, you should be able to publish it to Content Center.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

Thanx for 'going the extra mile'.

Your instructions is the fisrt thing I did before coming into this forum for help. But it didn't work. I even tried it again just now, but when I click on "Purge", there's nothing in the box to purge.

Thing is, if it was a style problem, then why does the Error NOT occur when the part is NOT an iPart when trying to Publish, but the Error DOES occur when the part IS an iPart when trying to Publish?

Is this type of problem in the software a reason why the developers changed the Styles system after Inventor 2010?

Hi! The behavior you described is not consistent with what I saw on my machine. Could you try publish attached part and see if it works for you? All I did was purging the unused styles.

Regarding the reason why Inventor started to adopt Autodesk Material/Appearance Library is mainly for consistency across the board. It was an effort to make most major Autodesk products look, feel, and behave similarly. So that, it is easier for users to learn and use.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

Yes, it published. Thanx!

What did you do to make it Publishable?

How can I repeat the process on my end if/WHEN this happens again?

Also, why didn't you use the parameter "B_L" for KEY2, instead of using "G_L"?

The Help and forums say to use "B_L" when Publishing CC parts. In fact, they say it's the ONLY ESSENTIAL parameter to select. With that in mind, I opened the iPart and added a "B_L" column. BUT, when trying to select that parameter, this error occurred: "The column or parameter type does not match the category parameter type. Content Center Search will view the values assigned to the column or parameter as data of the category parameter type. If the values are not relevant to the category parameter type, Search may not correctly locate the member." WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? That never happened before. What caused it and how do I fix it?

Incidentally, I never ran into these problem before when creating CC parts.

Can't imagine what's different now that's causing this problem.

Might you know?

Just for the sake of it, I took your part and deleted the iPart table and the Structural Shape Authoring. Then I re-made the iPart and re-did the Structural Shape Authoring. THEN I tried Publishing the part. It resulted in the same Error as before. That's why I keep asking what relationship does iPart creation have with Styles? That seems to be the key here. What do you know about it?

Thanx

Hi! The only thing I did to the file was go to Manage -> Styles -> Purge. Then save the file. I did not make other changes.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

Any ideas why that didn't work on my install?

Also, any ideas why making an iPart causes this Error to occur?

Thanx ...

Hi! I am sorry I don't have further information. Officially Inventor 2010 is not longer supported. My ability to investigate it is limited. I cannot explain why I was able to purge it while you could not. In the Purge dialog, what library did you compare against?

Maybe you want to consider doing Repair Install (Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Autodesk Inventor 2010 -> right-click -> Uninstall/Change -> Repair Install).

Another option is to upgrade to more recent Inventor releases.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

Thanx for getting back to me.
I appreciate your help, b/c you always do the best you can.

I would like to upgrade, but I do not want to have subscription (= slavery).

If Autodesk didn't have subscription, I would consider upgrading.

Would you please tell me who I can contact at Autodesk who specifically can give me an ISO file or can some other way send me a KNOWN GOOD build of the install program for Inventor 2010 Suite?

The reason I make this request, is b/c my DVD disks are giving me problems when I install, so the install may be getting corrupted. I've had some minor problems with my installs over the past few years, with "file not found" errors occurring at least 3x while installing. I think they are not critical files, b/c they have to do with Samples and CC members.

Getting that program install file would be the best thing at this point, don't you think?

Thanx

Hi Chris,

Unfortunately, I don't think I have access to such image. Even if I had, I could not do that. Please contact our resellers near you and they may have options for you.

Many thanks!
