iPart Frame Generator Sketch

My question is how can you use get a sketch to show up in an assembly though it's inserted. I've tried F10, it still doesn't show up. This sketch does have iPart attributes to it for 5 different lengths, which maybe this is the cause. But I need the sketch to have iPart attributes for the iAssembly and the sketch can be used for frame generator. If you can help me get this to show up that be awesome!

I also have a side question, is there anyway to create iParts in Assemblies as of this moment you can't. I can't figure out how to get this to work where the iPart/iAssembly isn't grey'd out.

I wouldn't recommend an ipart member or child be used for a frame generator skeleton.

Anyhow if you switch to model view in the browser instead of assembly view, can you toggle on the sketch them?

As per your second question I don't think its possible to create iparts while in an assembly.   You can only create normal parts.

Hi Sleiker,

If I understand your question correctly, you are trying to make a sketch used in one of your component parts visible in the assembly.

To do this:

1. In the model sidebar on the left-hand side of your screen find the inserted part.

2. Click the drop down arrow to display the features and parts that correspond to that component.

3. In the newly expanded section, find the feature of that component that is driven off of the desire sketch.

4. Click the drop down menu for this feature and the sketch will be listed underneath it.

5. Select the sketch, right-click, and select "Visible"

What drop down arrow are you talking about in the Inventor model browser pane?  Not sure I follow your steps and trying to understand what you're offering..  😁

Doing this doesn't effect anything. Whether I have it on model or assembly tab on the left side. Still no changes. Basically what I'm trying to do is use this sketch for Frame generator and be able to use the sizes. Like with the already existing table of contents for my other sizes that are working in iAssembly. I could do it with parameters but I'd much rather not when I can do it in just one window. Rather change one thing then go to the next. Which in theory.

Hopefully, that makes sense.  @Mark.Lancaster

This won't work in my case. @Anonymous

Can you share this part that you're using for a frame skeleton so I have a better understanding of what you're trying to accomplish.

Apologies,

I was under the impression that parts features showed up in the model tab in assemblies. Disregard my comment.

Now if you try to drop this file into an assembly shows up right before you place it.

You are not placing the ipart factory in the assembly, you are placing a member of the factory and such you can't access the features of it.

I wouldn't recommend doing it this way..   Or use ipart info for frame generated skeletons.

Hi @SleikerBF

Try this:

  • Place a part file with visible sketches into the assembly
  • Open the part and convert it to an iPart
  • Now return to the assembly and you will see the sketch and the ipart nodes for each member
  • HOWEVER! to change members you much return to the part and set a different one active

I don't think this is a supported workflow, so you might run into issues down stream, but it might be something to explore.

The other thought I had, was just to use a solid rather than a sketch... .that is my preference anyway, as described here:

I hope this helps.

Curtis, I'll give it a try. Just to see if it works. I'm sure I can figure something out to get it work I know there should be a way. If I could I'd use just normal angle outside of frame generator but that be more time consuming then trying to figure this way out. @Curtis_Waguespack

Mark, to yours why do you not suggest it this way. Are you suggesting using it a normal part then linking the dimensions to the iAssembly/iPart factory table? @Mark.Lancaster

wait... are you saying you're just trying to get an angle part to be different lengths? If that's the case there are far easier ways... but I'm not clear on what your goal is here.

I hope this helps.

Hi! I believe you are trying to create configurations of frames. I don't believe using iParts is the right way to do it. iParts and iAssemblies are meant for creating library components. They should be standalone and well defined on the table.

For custom, on-demand or inter-connected configuration workflows, your best bet is iLogic. You just need to focus on building one variation. Next you use iLogic rule to drive changes. Then, you use iLogic Design Copy to spawn another variation (a set of files).

Many thanks!
