Inventor visibility settings

Hi to all,

From suppliers, we receive STP files we want to use in our design. These files are very detailed which is in some cases very useful but the high level of detail also results in performance issues in larger federated models.

I want to improve this in several ways:

  • I want to simplify the geometry by filling voids in the geometry, removing very small holes but not all of them, and smoothen some parts of the geometry.
  • On the other hand, we want to work with the coarse, medium, and fine visibility settings in Revit

While preparing those issues I ran into some issues which I put in the attached file.

Thanks in advance for your support.

I'm not sure about the Revit side, but would a shrinkwrap work for you? You could place the stp into an assembly and do a shrinkwrap to simplify it and fill voids.

Hi Silviu,

What Inventor release are you on? Indeed, you want to look into Simplify (Shrinkwrap) workflow. You can remove certain components or geometry based o nthe size and shape. If you still cannot figure out, please share an example here. Forum experts can help provide further guidance.

Many thanks!

Hi,

I am using it in the 2021 version. I tested the Shrinkwrap command and the results are the ones from the attached file.

The settings used are the ones from the attachment, in case I use the wrong settings please type in the correct ones and I will implement them asap.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Hi Silviu,

I believe you need to use "Hole" option to remove. For the fasteners, you need to use Exclude selector to remove.

Many thanks!
