Inventor Update 2019.2: Frame Generator Issue

Hi All,

I installed the 2019.2 update and the next time I cam to use frame generator it seems to be broken. After selecting and applying the command completes but without populating any members.

I uninstalled the update and everything went back to normal and worked fine. Reinstalled the update and the issue reappears. Anyone found this happening?

Dont a trawl of previous posts and tried a few things but drawn a blank.

Any ideas?

Hi @martc35,

Thanks for your interesting post.

As far as I know, there is no known issue on that.

Could you please record a short screencast to highlight what you are trying to do?

Thanks

Sergio,

this is the screencast asked for - you can see that after picking the positions required and applying them nothing is added. I repeat it again straight after and still nothing.

Rolling back the update returns everything back to normal and it works fine.

Are your standard Templates in the default location?

Have you migrated custom templates from an earlier release?

Are using a Project *.ipj or are you using Vault?

Templates are in sub-folder of the default location. I'm using custom templates that have been migrated - but this was the case before the update with no issue.

Using vault but again never had the issue before the update.

+2!

Same for me and one of our customers!

It always workd. Content Center in the Vault. No special folder structure, just standard like always and like most of our customers.

Frame members are visible in the preview, but are not generated!

I think this is a known issue and they are working on it.

In the meantime I think the “solution” is to roll back the update.

I rolled back the update again so I could get my job done and everything is fine. What I have noticed in my case is that with the update applied the create new frame dialog shows different names and the frame member naming window does not appear (Compare the earlier and this screencast). Maybe there is something going on with the new frame generator naming defaults that is causing it?

It does not seem to be so, but do you happen to have Vault numbering scheme and Vault Data Standard implemented?

Hi! We are actively working on a fix to address the Frame Gen issue on 2019.2. An update will be available soon. I am very sorry for all the trouble it has caused. In the meantime, if 2019.2 blocks your progress, please uninstall it for now.

Many thanks!

HI Sergio,

While searching for a different issue solution to Frame generator Issues I'm having with the 2019.1 update I saw this post.

I'm not real sure if this is related, but cannot seem to find an avenue to get this to the development team. While attempting to use the command "Trim to Frame" on a Frame Generated steel assembly, it just fails to work correctly, or dependably. The frame parts select correctly, the preview presents the solution, but fails to execute the operation. The Command "Trim to Face" and "Notch" seems to work as designed, but not "Trim to Frame". See images of basic frame Pre-"Trim to Frame" operations and results below.

PRE "TRIM TO FRAME" OPERATIONPRE "TRIM TO FRAME" OPERATION

Now using the "Trim to Frame" tool (command) to adjust the corners on the frame design. (SEE RESULTS BELOW)

As shown about the exact same tool "Trim to Frame" was used in both operations, with completely different results. Note this worked correctly in 2018, ..17, ..16, ..15. Note real sure If 2019.2 update will repair, but not willing to load based on what I have reviewed in this post.

Might want to have development, team review this command with a simple skid create as shown above.

Thanks

Hi Mike,

The issue you raise here seems to be a different issue than the original thread. The original issue has been resolved as of 2019.3 update. If I understood your issue correctly, it could not be resolved as a defect fix. Some design change is required. I believe we are working on a solution on our internal Beta. If you want to try, please sign up Inventor Beta (https://bit.ly/InventorBeta).

Many thanks!
