Inventor Text Height Issues

I am using Inventor2017 to create a layout for surface etching(need to have a 3d model of part when complete), this is not text on a .idw file this is text on a sketch in a .ipt, and due to the type of line work required making it in mechanical is not feasible.

The issue I am running into is that Inventor is not allowing me to create text under 0.1mm in height, it will round either up to 0.1 or down to 0, nowhere have I been able to find anything in the software to adjust or correct this behavior, and thus this project is currently stalled. This behavior did not exist in 2015 which allowed me to alter text to it's minimum size of 0.01mm without issue, and if i create a file in 15 and move it to 17 and try to edit it in any way it breaks the text as well.

Hello @KS902

Have you tried changing the text height in the Styles Editor?

Like in the printscreen below. I made the text 0.05mm

And it will go down to 0.01mm.

Thomas.

@KS902 Is your part file units set to inches or mm?

I can create text as small as .01mm also without issue when my document settings..units is mm

edit.. oops.. I just noticed it was rounding up too..

I can tell it to go down to that size, but it won't actually create text at that size is the issue.

Hello,

I created a new style, in the style editor. And created a height of 0.01.

And my height comes out as 0.01.

Thomas.

Hello,

Yes 2018.

I have 2017 on my computer at home.

I will try it at home. And see if i can get it to go to 0.01 on 2017.

I can attach a screencast to show you how i did it if you want?

Thomas.

Hi! I am able to reproduce the behavior on 2018 and 2017. I assume you are using mm unit. 0.05mm text is very small. The rounding behavior seems new to me. I was able to set it to 0.05mm in much earlier releases. I will work with project team to understand why the behavior was changed.

Many thanks!

Hi @KS902,

Thanks for reporting such problem to us. After investigation, it cause by text styles missing.

In legacy build such as 2015, 2016 and 2017, when create a text, in the style drop-down list, there are three of them which are DEFAULT-ANSI, DEFAULT-ISO and Text(Default). The text size can be set as 0.01 mm for style DEFAULT-ISO and Text(Default), not for DEFAULT-ANSI (0.1 mm is the minimal for DEFAULT-ANSI). In addition, in legacy build, the default text style is DEFAULT-ISO, so it can be set as 0.01 mm easily.

However, in Inventor 2018, those three styles are removed from style manager (Manager -> style manager), two 3DA styles as a replacement – Note text (ANSI) - 3DA and Sketch text (ANSI) – 3DA (as default). In this way, size of text minimal size is 0.1 mm.

That's the reason.

I try to export legacy text styles and re-import back to Inventor 2018, but those three styles does not appear in the drop-down list in format text dialog. Sorry for that!

I am working with project team to get more information and then back to you, please stay tuned.

Thanks

Good.. I noticed that too and was just about to start taking screenshots and writing about it to find the reason.. Glad you noticed it as that saves me the trouble..

I'm not sure why ALL text styles available to the file/template are not exposed there in that dropdown..

That's why I think this is odd, it's set to Default-ISO and refuses to go under 0.1mm text height where I had no problems before.

Any news on this issue, or is editing sketch geometry in mechanical the only way around this.
