Inventor Terribly Slow

I've worked with Inventor for 10 years and this has to be the worst performing attempt at using Inventor in a while.
I am working using Vault and have checked out the files locally. I am working for a customer and connected via remote connection to their server and to their vault. But I can't understand why the speed is so terribly slow.

Deleting lines from a sketch takes maybe 4-5 seconds to compute. The model is far from perfect and the file size is 14Mb, but even still this seems ridiculous.

I have followed the below to modify my viewing performance and still the problem is the same.

Is it related to the poor network connection?

Here are my laptop specs:

Intel Core i7-6820HQ CPU @ 2.7GHz
Sandisk 512gb SSD 6gb/s SATA
32 Gb RAM
64 bit
Windows 7 - Sp1
NVidia Quadro M2000M

Hi Dan,

What release of Inventor are you on? You said you connected to the customer's server via Remote Desktop, right? Then, the network speed and bandwidth will almost dictate the performance. Your hardware is pretty much irrelevant. In this kind of setup, the performance is unmeasurable and unpredictable.

Many thanks!

Did you check out your files to the physically local computer you are on? Or to a remotely located computer via remote desktop connection?

Have you verified that you don't have similar performance issues when working physically local computer with a test dataset of your own files thus removing vault/remote,etc.. from the equation?

What troubleshooting steps have you performed so far?

Do you have some level of IT support you could have to aid you in troubleshooting the connection/performance issues?

Apologies for the confusion - I am connected via VPN to another network server where the vault server is hosted.
This way I can connect to the Vault whilst being in another country.

Troubleshooting Steps:
- Updated windows view optimisation as per above.
- Cleared temporary files
- Updated Inventor application options to improve performance
+ Removed update physical parts and assemblies on save
+ Reduced Undo file size to 1024mb

I will save the part locally and test out the function to remove any relationship to Vault/Server. However, I thought once the parts are downloaded through Vault using the "Get" function that Save functions shouldn't rely on a network connection. Is this true?

I'll come back with some other anecdotal evidence of testing fully locally without Vault/Server connection.

Ok I copied the file to my documents locally, swicthed off all connections to any networks and set the project file to the Default.

I noticed that performing actions on the file still remains slow and I took a screenshot of the "Resource Monitor" window during this operation. Perhaps you could point me in the right direction on how to narrow down to what is actually causing the poor performance.

There are definitely some spikes in CPU performance during use up to around 30%, I am basically opening and closing sketches in the model to observe this effect.

Hi Dan,

Have you updated graphics driver? Is Hardware option set to Performance (Tools -> App Options)? Is this Inventor 2020 or 2019?

Many thanks!

Dear Johnson,

This is Inventor 2019. Application options are set to performance.
The graphics driver is updated but the issue is still present.

Please see another screenshot of performance during opening of a sketch.

@Anonymous - Perhaps I can send you the component to see if it performs on your device?
