Inventor Studio video file size limit?

Hello,

I tried to "render" a video from Inventor Studio (no real rendering, just a preview output), using uncompressed AVI format.

It "rendered" through seemingly fine, but it made just a 4 GB file, which is much smaller than waht it should be.

And no wonder, the file can't be played at all. I am sure it is truncated.

Is there such a filesize limit in Studio or what?

(Filesystem is NTFS.)

How long is your video? 15 sec? 30sec?

I recommend rendering longer videos in segments 0-30, 30-60, 60-90 seconds.

And then use other software to stitch together.

For real difficult situations you can render to individual slides and then compile into video.

30s @ 30FPS, resolution is slightly larger than FHD.

I don't want to use external software if it is not needed, and so far I haven't found any info about a possible filesize limit.

What are your system specs RAM and video card?

If you set it to save to slides I am pretty sure that it saves each slide as it completes and then releases RAM (I don't really know how this works, speculation on my part).

I used to use free Windows Movie Maker to compile the slides into video, but that is no longer available for Windows 10.  I suspect that there is some sort of replacement.  Off to search I go....

but why would I save it as stills and then use a third party program to combine them into a video, or why should i render it in slices and then combine those with another external application, if there is already a function in inventor to render video?????? it should work.

i7 4771, 32gb ram, gtx670. it has nothing to do with specs.

i tried rendering the first 15 seconds, it produced a 2.5 gig file, and it was unplayable...

i can render the whole video as wmv and apart from the ****ty quality it works perfectly fine. a full uncompressed avi should be much simpler and should work.

I'm on windows 7 btw.

If I stop the "rendering", then the resulting (partial) avi file plays fine. But if I render it through, it becomes unplayable.

I gave up trying to use Inventor Studio to output straight to video formats years ago.  Instead, I render to individual still images and use 3rd party tools to complete the project.  Is this a workaround? Yes, but my clients pay for complete videos...

Why?

1. I get useful results that way without waiting on fixes from Autodesk.
2. I can render stills for each shot as separate tasks.
   1. My customer can ask for changes on a shot-by-shot or frame-by-frame basis and I only have to render the sections that change.
   2. I can build a "render farm" of several different machines running Inventor and manually assign each shot to different machines.  I then use the 3rd party tool to integrate the stills from each machine into the final video.
3. 3rd party tools can add text, transitions, and other effects that my customers request.
4. 3rd party tools have many different codecs and presets that produce useful files for mobile, web, email and other various end uses that Studio does not include.
