Inventor Sheet Metal Questions

Hi inventor community,
I'm trying to edit the corner when creating sheet metal flange, if percentage overlap choose 0.9, it will run successfully, but if I choose 1, Inventor will show a message box: flange body intersects with the existing body or self-intersects.

What’s the problem with this? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Try input 0.999 instead.

Regard to self intersection, some of them are allowed and some of them are not which is judged by internal shape manager. It is not that easy to explain.

Here is a post which is talking about self-intersection, hope it helps!

Hello @Anonymous

I have attached a file with a overlap corner. With 1 as the value.

Would this be what you wanted?

Thomas.

Hello @Anonymous

Just seen you are on 2015, so wouldn't be able to open my .ipt.

I have attached a few photos to show you how to achieve the corner.

Apply these settings, and this should work.

Hope the solves your problem.

Apply these settings, and this should work. Apply Tear to the relief settings. And Miter/Rip/GapSeam as .1 in your sheet metal defaults. Also as you can see from my photo, use Tear as Relief size in your Corner settings.

Hope the solves your problem.

Hello @Anonymous

I found the problem.

The problem is your Bend Radius. You have done Thickness/2. Which will intersect.

When i just placed Thickness the Flange worked fine.

Try on your model Bend Radius as just Thickness, and not Thickness/2.

Are you bending in a VEE that will create a 1mm Inside Radius?

Thomas.
