The Design Accelerator for Gear Design is found in an Inventor assembly under the "Design" tab, Power Transmission tab.  See Attachment.  I am sorry to tell you that this function does not model racks, only spur gears.  It will help you determine the design but you will have to download 3D models of racks from the internet.  You can find some very standard ones on the McMaster-Carr website.  I have also attached a Screencast on a rack and pinion assembly I created for another question, it may help you get started.

Hi

Thanks for your response.

I am having some trouble in identifying gear parameters ? Is there any online source to find out ?

One of the best, free, sources for engineering information is in the appendix of any gear manufacturing catalog.  They cut through a lot of theory and get right to the critical design information.  Just as an example, here is a link to the Martin Gear and Sprocket companies spur gear catalog appendix.  Also, just do a search of the internet for gear design and nomenclature, you will have a lot to read for sure.

Hi JHackney,

I am back to my project, that is amazing.

Is there any other guide line  or resources for rack and pinion.

I have one rack and pinion design.

Do we need to conduct interference check and collision detection ?

Kind Regards
