Welcome to the community...

Your download is failing due to the method you're using.

Download and install per:

1. Access the Autodesk Virtual Agent (link is in my signature) and follow the download links to your product.
2. Download all of the parts (some applications only have a single part to download) for your product first. Do not continue until all of the parts have fully downloaded.
3. Navigate to your download folder location and extract (double click) part _001_00X.sfx.exe (or the single file download).
4. In a few seconds the extraction will start and prompt you to extract to C:\Autodesk.
5. Once the extraction is finished, the installation will automatically start.
6. Follow the installation steps for your product

If you want the full recommended installation steps, click on the installation link in my signature.

Good luck on your installation.

Welcome to the community...

Your installation is failing due to the

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable

So I would recommend uninstalling all version of the Visual C++ Redistributable on your machine (Windows Control Panel/Add&Remove programs) and then restart the installation again so that it can put them back on.   Most likely you have a newer version than the installer needs.  Report back on your progress.

I am having the same issue. I uninstalled all the Microsoft visual redistributables and let the installer tool add them but I keep getting a failed installation. Attached is the log. Thanks!

Welcome to the community...

Your installation is simply failing due to the method (web installer) you're using.  This method is unreliable and shouldn't be used.

Download and install per:

1. Access the Autodesk Virtual Agent and follow the download links to your product.
2. Download all of the parts (some applications only have a single part to download) for your product first. Do not continue until all of the parts have fully downloaded.

5. Once the extraction is finished, the installation will automatically start.
6. Follow the installation steps for your product

If you want the full recommended installation steps, click on the installation link in my signature.

However if the installation does fail using this method, please post your installation log file here so we can review it.  Posting info: Sometimes installation log files contain personal information such as your serial #.  Prior to posting your log file please make sure to remove such info.

Good luck on your installation and report back on your progress.

Although you were probably unaware of this, but when you post or share stuff here, please make sure it doesn't include your personal information such as your serial #. This is a world wide user forum and that type of info should not be included in your posting. Granted the installation log file helped us to determine your root cause (but it did contain your serial #)... So in the future remove or blur it out before posting. I will have the moderator remove it in order to protect your information.

Hello,

I'm having a similar issue installing Inventor. I have tried installing both 2016 and 2017, with no luck. Any advice?

I have attached a copy of the 2016 install log.

Thanks

So did you read any advice that was already here about when posting your log file?

I assume not because you shared your serial # with the entire world..  Its right in your attached log file.  Smiley Wink

Without your installation log file we can only speculate what the issue at this point. Posting info: Sometimes installation log files contain personal information such as your serial #.  Prior to posting your log file please make sure to remove such info.

I'm having a similar issue. I don't want to post my setup log with all of the serial numbers, however. What do they look like? Are they the "SN #######" or are they the {#####-#####-#####-#####} numbers? Thanks!

There will be a line that has s/n followed by the number. It maybe in the log numerous times or not in there at all

Perform a clean uninstall per these instructions.  Just make sure to adjust settings if you have other Autodesk products already installed/working on your machine.

Next you are using the web installer which is unreliable.

Download and install per:

1.  Clean out your personal temp (%temp%) folder.  Set Windows UAC to never notify, full admin rights and if possible disable your Anti-Virus/Malware scanning utilities. Also the download should occur over a hard wired connection to the Internet and not over WIFI.

2. Access the Autodesk Virtual Agent and follow the download links to your product.

3. Download all of the parts (some applications only have a single part to download) for your product first. Do not continue until all of the parts have fully downloaded.
4. Navigate to your download folder location and extract (double click) part _001_00X.sfx.exe (or the single file download).
5. In a few seconds the extraction will start and prompt you to extract to C:\Autodesk.
6. Once the extraction is finished, the installation will automatically start.
7. Follow the installation steps for your product.  At this point you could cancel the installation or create a deployment.

However if the installation does fail using this method, please post your installation log file here so we can review it.  Posting info: Sometimes installation log files contain personal information such as your serial #.  Prior to posting your log file please make sure to remove such info.

Good luck on your installation and report back on your progress.

I can't delete the program files folder because it is in use. And I have no idea where. I looked in the resource monitor and couldn't find anything. Here is a screenshot.

Screenshot 8-7-17.jpg

The installer won't let me select Inventor because it thinks that it is still installed. Above is the only step I couldn't complete for the uninstall. Thanks for your help.

Have you rebooted your machine and try again to delete?

I have tried to reboot and it is still in use. I have also attempted to force delete the folder through the cmd and that also fails.

Mark, your suggestions sadly did not help in my case. I've even gone so far as to try it on a completely fresh Win10 install with UAC and Windows Defender disabled - still the genskf.exe window appears and progress bars stop filling.
