Inventor Professional 2015 SP2 Crashes

Hello everbody

 

I have serious problems with "Inventor Professional 2015" on my works PC which is fully service packed and updated based on Autodesk Update Manager.  Inventor usually crashes upon creation of features with shared sketches.  It commonly happens with Revolved multibody part features that are generated from a base sketch (such as a seal profile on a grooved tube) and made into components to create the assembly.  Mostly Inventor loses the links between projected edges/points from other sketches and links to external spreadsheets - if it is not already crashed.  I haven't had any fun with the software since the recent updates..  Did anybody else face these problems??  Thanks

Can you provide an example of a part that is crashing when you try....

 

 Also are you reporting the errors.. I ask because usually Autodesk people will get on here and pull your info and see what they can find too...

Hi Mike, thanks for your quick response

 

I was creating a basic seal clamp that will be installed around a cable and pulled through an outer tube.

 

I created a base sketch that includes all required features. I made a basic rectangular tube profile that would interfere with seals. I made a clamp profile with an outer groove as complete loop.  Then I created my chamfered-rectangle seal profile as a complete loop and located inside the clamp grove and made seal edges colinear to the groove.  At this point seal interferes with the outer tube at mid length.  Then I created two circles for my clamp bolts and their socket recesses. Once this base sketch completed, I revolved the tube as a new solid 180deg.  Then I revolved the seal as a new solid 360deg.  Then revolved the clamp as a new solid at 180deg.  I then created a new sketch on base sketch plane and projected outer edges of the clamp to extrude-cut a a splitline gap.  Then I created a work plane for bolt flange thickness and projected recess geometry from the base sketch. After that I extrude-cut bolt recesses and then extrude cut bolt thru holes.  I created another sketch on seal face to create a single splitline and extrude-cut along the seal depth.  And finally added chamfers and radii to all components.

 

I repeated this process until it was finally working (after 3 crashes at various steps).  It certainly crashed when I revolved the second feature at which I was selecting the correct profile to revolve.  After I deselected a region and selected another one, it crashed. It also crashed when I was extrude-cutting the seal splitline.  I can't remember the reason for the 3rd crash to be honest, so it might be a repeat crash of one of these.

 

Another point is coming from our seriously experienced draftsman.  He has various complex general assemblies that are driven from excel sheets, base multibody solid parts and parameters.  Inventor never manages to update the full assembly and manufacturing drawings upon the edition of the excel file, and requires you to individually refresh base components, and when you do that loses its link to the excel files which you then have to delete link and re-link.  It certainly doesn't like the drawing to be kept open during a part edit anyway.. 

 

I think I reported over 10 crashes in the last two weeks and got fed up of the same electronic response..

"please send us your 3d model and detail the steps blah blah blah... "

which I have actually spent time to write up a proper reply for all different reasons of crashes.. did I get any other response back?  not so far....  I wish Inventor was as reliable as other 3D software I've used in the past..

What tmccar adduced you can be the issue.

 

After checking the graphics card if it's certifield check also the driver if that is certifield.

I have seen some issues before that drivers where out of date or to new.

Thanks for all the responses.  As far as I knew, all drivers were up to date.  Yet when checked it today, the graphic card found an available update.  I'll accept your answers as a solution for now, and if I receive similar crashes I'll let you know.  Thanks!

 

My PC is certified.  Note that I upgraded the hard drive to 512Gb Samsung SSD and Installed 20GB RAM.  I have no performance issues at all and stress simulations are also performing as they should.
