Inventor out of control?

I have Autodesk Inventor 206 build 138 Release 3016 RTM UPDATE 1 (04/14/2015).

IWhen editing this part I have a feeling that inventor is out of controll - you can see from picture tat there are green crosses (or marks) to the right of screenshot - that I could not tell where they get from - what is more I could not delete them.

Also same with references - I could not even select them???

Why is that? Is that bug or feature?

Your primary base sketch is unconstrained and can be dragged around. It looks like a number of these items are related to projected geometry from other parts when this part was edited within the context of an assembly.

Other Hole features are patterned off the model and into space as well.

My quick look over of the part, it appears that you are doing far too much work to get your required results.

so how do I remove that references insketch - As I understand - part lost connection to assembly - and now there is no way to remove those references??

Do you suggest I should not "edit part within the context of an assembly" since it produce weird part situation -. unselectable references etc?

Also this: Despite part was edited within the context of an assembly I should be able to somehow break that link - how do I do that in that particular part?

There is nothing wrong with editing a part within the context of an assembly, if, you have an understanding of Adaptive geometry.

Looking at your part - I suspect that you need more experience before moving to adaptive parts.  Make sure Adaptivity is turned off for now.  As for the part you have - I would start over and attach the new attempt here.

No sir this is not an option.

I still havent got answer how to remove green marks?
How to remove sketch reference that could not be selected.

It looks for me for now that inventor leaves me or my part in unusable
unreparable state.

It doesnt matter if user understands adaptivity workflow or not.
If tool allows one to leave part in unteparable state i call this a bug.

I could take the time to explain how to fix the original part, but I will decline that option.

I would try opening the IAM file first that this part resides in, then open this part from within the IAM and try deleting the items.

This still won't correct the poor modeling techniques found in the IPT file. The un-constrained sketch's I suspect is the major issue with this model. Since the base feature can move around within the environment due to it's sketch being un-constrained. Any sketches and features created after this feature can move off the base feature/solid and create downstream problems.

Since it looks like a standard HSS shape, I would have started with a CC item placed in the model. Since the CC item is modeled about the Origin Axis's and it's primary sketch, fully constrained, it will reduce the need for a number of work planes.

I suspect that as JD stated, it would be far faster to create this part from scratch. There is nothing wrong with editing parts within the context of a IAM file and using Adaptivity, as long as one uses solid modeling techniques.
