Inventor opens files in a new window

Hi,

I started tinkering with file association in Windows Explorer, and... I ended messing it up. 😬.

What I have now is:

  • .ipt and .iam files changed their icons (while .idw and .ipn files still have their correct icons, see pics);
  • if I open a file from Windows Explorer, it opens in a new Inventor window, instead of opening as a new tab in the main window as usual.

I also tried uninstalling Inventor and reinstalling it, without success.

Is it possible to do something to restore the original behaviour?

Thank you!

Best regards,

Marco A.

I vaguely remember something with running "DtDv.exe", but i can't find any good references for it.
It had to do with Inventor view at the time, same sort of problem with file association...
Make sure windows has properly associated the file type to Inventor and try running "DtDv.exe"....

Sorry if this is a bit of a useless post...

Hi,

thank you very much for your quick reply!

Before trying it, I wanted to do as following:

  • change file association, from Inventor to a completely different applicazion (I chose Notepad);
  • revert file association, from Noteopad to Inventor.

I noticed that I have two "Autodesk Inventor® 2023" entries:

one of them gives the faulty behaviour, while the other one solved the problem!

I made this both for .iam and .ipt, and now everything seems to work properly.

Thank you for taking time to solve my problem!
