Inventor LT how to change units to dimension in fractional notation ie 2 1/2

For a part file

Do you want to model (in the ipt) in fractional?

If so just type away.. If you have your units as "inches" you can just type 2 1/2 and thats 2.5"

or

Do you want to show the dimensions in the drawing (idw) in fractional?

If so edit your dimension style and change the "linear format" on the units" tab to be on of the fractional options.

One additional clarification: if your units are set to inches, and you type simply 3/4, for example, Inventor treats this as an equation: d3 = 3 in / 4 ul.  But if you type it as 3/4", this is how it is stored.  For mixed fractions, though, the intent is understood: 2 1/2 is stored as d3 = 2 1/2".  All this is easily seen by changing the Dimension Display to Expression from the default Tolerance.

So, when using fractions in part parameters such as dimensions, get in the habit of adding the " unit mark-- eliminates any ambiguity for simple fractions.
