Inventor Frame Generator not updating with sketch Newpost

Hello,

We have recently updated from 2019 to Inventor 2021.2

Frame generator assemblies randomly stop responding to changes to the driving sketch. There is another post with this same issue that is marked as solved. This issue is not solved and that solution does not work.

We now have multiple frames that have randomly stopped responding to changes to the sketch. I cannot identify any pattern as to why this happens. The only way it appears we can get frames to respond to the sketches is to either, delete and remake the affected memebers or select the "Change" command and rotate or move the member then move it back for it to position correctly on any member that was effected. And sometimes that does not effect a length change. After these "fixes", the frame will continue to NOT respond sketch changes.

We have tried Rebuild all from every level.  We have tried various levels of detail changes as the previous post suggested.  (in nearly all cases, there was no extra level of detail created.)

This tool not working is a massive problem. For every Frame that stops working properly, design time sky rockets....  PLEASE HELP !!

Hi Steven,

The behavior does not sound right. But, I am not aware of a systematic issue like this. Please share an example that exhibits the behavior.

Many thanks!

Hi Steven,

This is absolutely wrong. The frame members are corrupted. Somehow, the member no longer recognize the skeletal part. I don't have your custom frame library but I believe there is way to "rehook" the members to the skeletal part.

1) Right-click on each member -> Edit with Frame Gen.

2) Select a different spec and then change it back.

3) Repeat the steps to other members.

Do you know how to reproduce this behavior? Did you use iLogic Design Copy or Vault Copy Design to create the frame? Did you replace the skeletal part?

Many thanks!

Hello.  I have discovered there was an issue with the custom library we use. I do not know if this is causing the issue. Seems the library was not migrated properly. I have resolved the issue. The frames that have stopped responding remain unresponsive. I have instructed the designers to make not of all frames made after the migration issue was fixed to see if the issue occurs again.  I will update this post if anything does or does not happen 🙂

Hello,  I wanted to add, that there have been frames that have not used the custom library which have failed.  I will post a follow up in about a week or so after some new frames have been created to see if the problem is ongoing. Please do not mark this issue as solved. 🙂

Hi. I was hoping someone from Autodesk would look further into this.

Hi Steve,

This case is fairly similar to the one you reported earlier. Could you also share the custom .idcl file? I believe it is related to the custom library.

Many thanks!

Hi,

Just a note, I have been told that the frames have also stopped responding when using the provided Autodesk libraries.  I currently am working on a new frame and only using the standard libraries.  I have noticed odd behavior including both bullet points below. I have also needed to use rebuild all several times in order to see the sketch change impact the actual members. So far, the frame is still functional.

That being said, we mostly use the custom library. There was never an issue in 2019. Regarding the IDCL. My boss doesnt want to just give this away, so I have attached it in a zip file that is password protected. I will send you a message with the password.

Just another note... There are other "bugs" our designers are reporting also with frame generator:

  • after placing several frame members, and continuing to work, suddenly they members that were placed are just gone as if they never were placed.
  • When multi selecting lines to insert a member on, there is an error message that an unknown error has occurrred. Saying ok removes all the placed members. You must then insert members one at a time.

Hi Steven,

Many thanks for sharing the files and reporting the issues! I will work with the project team to understand it better. Just to set the expectation since we are approaching the end of the year. The response may be slower than usual. If this is a urgent issue requiring immediate attention, please report it through Subscription support.

If there is any update, I will let you know.

Thanks again!

Hi Steven,

Many thanks for sharing another example! I have forwarded the issue to the project team. We will get back to you with the findings. Just FYI, most of the Autodesk staff are on holidays right now. The response may not be as timely as usual.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hi Steven,

Happy New Year! I don't have much to update except sharing the defect ID with you. It has been reported as INVGEN-49586. The issue is still being investigated by the project team.

Many thanks!

Hi again.

I think i have identified the exact moment this new frame i've been working on went bad.  It was during inserting new frame members. I was selecting multiple lines to insert the frame members on. The members appear on the screen dehighlighted at each selection. The i hit apply. Then the file naming window pops up. After selecting OK, a brief pause occurs, all members appear to be placed in the 3d space but an error pops up. (See screenshot). After clicking ok to the error, the frame members depopulate from the screen and do not exist anymore. Attempting to insert multiple members after this again resulted in the same behavior. Attempts to insert multiple frame members on different lines resulted in the same behavior. Attempting to insert a frame member on one line was successful.

Further more, after this buggy behavior, the frame/inventor started behaving strangely also. Changing a dimension in the skeleton file from 1800mm to 1850mm did nothing on screen. The dimension still showed 1800mm on screen and the line did not change in length, but when double clicking the dimension to modify it, the little window that pops up shows 1850mm.  After saving and restarting, the line became 1850mm and now the frame no longer responds to changes to the skeleton.  No custom library was used.

Hi Steven,

I am sorry for the delay. I just checked the defect status (INVGEN-49586). It is still being investigated. The source of the issue has not yet been identified unfortunately. I believe you have already approached Product Support. Please feel free escalate it.

Many thanks!
