I'm not sure why this is a problem, or what you'd like to solve?  I still see an Inventor Icon in your image.

This is usually (from what I've seen) all related to improper user permissions during install.

Always "run as administrator" or make sure you are using a local admin account..

I've never had this problem before as my user account is setup properly..

Hi everybody!

It is problem solved. I turned off the computer in the evening. This morning I turned on the computer, the problem was solved. I suspect Regedit.exe. Inventor fix it himself, I think.

Thank you so much.

big problem, sure it is a inventor icon but you can't tell the difference between a .ipt, .idw, or a .iam all of the icons are the same, it is very frustrating. And mine is not in the browser it is in my  file explorer.

Hi! It looks like Inventor was not properly registered or installed. Try this.

1) Start a command window or type in the command "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 20xx\Bin\Inventor.exe /register"

2) Start Inventor and close it.

Do the file icons appear correctly now? If not, go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> find the Inventor release -> right-click -> Uninstall/Change -> Repair Install.

Please let me know if it works.

Many thanks!

Hi! Do you share the computer with other users? It is strange that it worked before but now it does not work any more. Another option you could consider is to use Inventor Reset Utility (go to All Programs -> Autodesk -> Inventor Professional 20xx -> Tools -> Inventor Reset Utility).

Many thanks!

No I don't share with anyone else, but I only work 4 days a week, so I assume someone could use it if necessary. But that has not happened recently that I know of.

Good Morning,

I had a chance this morning to try the reset utility, and it seams to be working. So it looks good for now.

Thanks

Hello,

I'm also facing similar issue in my Citrix Workstation. Inventor icons are grayed out and file type associations are missing.

I'm using Inventor Professional 2018 and Windows 10.

The Current workaround I'm using to fix this issue is:

1. Close all Autodesk Products

2. Reset Inventor using Inventor reset utility

3. Run Inventor.exe

But this workaround fix the issue only for the current session.

If i restart my workstation, my Inventor icons are grayed out and file type association is missing. I can't do the above workaround for each login.

Can you suggest me a permanent solution for this?

Thanks & Regards

Sathish Kannan V
