Inventor Environments Greyed out

Hi

I have Inventor Product Design Suite 2017 installed, however the "Studio, Stress Analysis, Dynamic Simulation, Cable & Harness" environments are all greyed out. The only ones available are Frame Analysis and Tube & Pipe. I have had this issue previously and I was told by my reseller to wait until I installed the new version and all should be okay. Well I did that ages ago and no difference. The issue has been the same for 2014, 2015, 2016 and now 2017. My reseller logged in quite a while ago and tried to fix it without success.

Can anyone pleas suggest a solution?

Regards Neil

Go to tools -> Add-ins and check if they're loaded.

That is my best suggestion.

If you do have Inventor Pro installed  and you are in an assembly and these options are still greyed out..  To me it sounds like you didn't have the proper permission when installing and launching the application for the first time.

For a test please do this..

1.  Exit Inventor

2.  If you are using Win 7, select the Win start button and in the search field type CMD (but do not hit an enter).

3.  If you are using Win 8/8.1 or 10, Ask Cortana and type CMD (but do not hit an enter).

4.  When the command prompt appears in the list, right mouse click and select run as admin.

5.  Navigate to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2017\Bin

6.  Type Inventor.exe /install

7.  Wait a few mins and restart Inventor.

Report back on your progress.

Hi Yannick

Thank you for the link, however I see it was posted in 2013 and I'm not sure I would like to edit the reg in Windows10 with something that was designed before that version came out. It also may not suit software of a later version. But thanks anyway.

The information @YannickEnrico provided in that link is the old fashion way of resetting your Inventor/Windows Profile through the registry.   Now-a-days there's a built in Inventor Reset Utility that's located with your Autodesk Inventor section of Windows 10 (or 8 or 7)..    DOes the same thing and is much cleaner especially if you don't like hacking the registry..  Smiley Very Happy  But before you do that, following my re-register steps and if you do go down the road of resetting your profile for Inventor, please make sure to read the steps here because Inventor will be reset to the out-of-box settings.

Hi Mark

Thanks for your help. I followed the first suggestion and the result is still the same. I will look over the reset instructions tonight and look at doing it tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes.

Once again thank you for your help.

Hi Mark

I completed the reset and it made no difference. Made sure all addins were reloaded and still no difference. I believe the issue lies somewhere else as it has been across multiple versions of the software. 2015 and 2016 had the same issue.

For at least one of the add-ins that is loaded but not working..  Can you share an entire screen shot showing all the load information or just compare the Inventor Studio info with my image..

Perhaps you have already done this..  But what happens if another user logs onto your machine?  Does the problem persist?   What anti-virus application do you?  Can you temporary suspend and try to see if that resolves the issue?

Update:  Another thing I forgot to pass along..  What happens if you create a new (Inventor) project from scratch?

Hi Mark

Attached is a screen shot of the Addins Manager. All are Loaded and Automatic.

I am using Windows10 and windows Defender. I have already disabled the virus protection and that also made no difference.

Also are you using the out of box standard.iam template for your assembly or something else or did you modify the standard.iam file?

Hi Mark

Sorry I forgot, I don't have other users, I am a single operator. I am the only one using the computer.

Hi Mark

No all I have done is copy the templates to another directory and pointed the file options to that. I have also set everything back to the original template settings and loaded the original template file and still no change.

I keep thinking back to the fact that this was happening in both 2015 and 2016 before I installed 2017, and both before and after upgrading to Windows10. I don't believe that it is a singular Inventor 2017 problem. I haven't had these environments for three years!

I understand you have been struggling with this for a few releases and I wasn't thinking just of Inventor 2017..  Basically I was thinking of "things" that would be common across the versions.   In addition its not easy troubleshooting an odd behavior like this over a forum and words...  Smiley Very Happy

At this point I will tag @bob_holland to see if he can offer any other suggestions to you.  Its odd and nothing is resetting it.  I guess the other thing you can try is to unload everything in the add-in manager and make sure it doesn't load on startup.  Exit Inventor and start it again.  Then check Inventor Studio add-in to load after you start an assembly.  What happens then?  Also do you have any other 3rd party add-ins that are not part of the Inventor installation?

Post some screen shots of the work environment where you are having this issue. Or even better use the Screencast Recorder that you can download and install from Autodesk so we can see exactly what's going on.

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

Hi Mark

Yes I had Thread Modeller, Cad to Earth and Sunglass. I just blocked all three and loaded one at time and found the issue. SunglassInventorAddIn was causing the issue. Once that is blocked and Inventor is re-run all environments are back up and running. Sunglass was an app to allow web viewing of CAD models. I have just gone back to the Exchange App website and I cannot find it on there any more so, i think it may have been discontinued.

Thank you for all your help in isolating the problem and directing me to the fix!

Problem is now fixed!

Hi Blair

Thank you for your input. I have just found that one of my AddIn's was causing the issue and have now blocked it.

All Fixed!
