Inventor Design Advice For Medallion Using Freeform Tools

I attached a design exercise document about creating a medallion.

Do you have a design approach on how to model the FoxHead? Should I use the freeform tool?

Can you please guide me to any related tutorial about this approach?

Yes, I would start out with Freeform and then use some of the standard modeling tools.

I would first layout the basic size in a 2D sketch and bring the image into the sketch and size to appropriate scale.

Hi Jerome,

At first, I agreed with JD that Freeform would be a good choice for this case. But, as I read through the PDF, I think this should be done using parametric features or surface features, since strict dimensions are involved. For the fox's head, you just need to model half of it. There is no need to create the whole thing and double the work. It is doable but it may take a little bit more time than regular machined parts.

You made a good point Johnson.

I get what you mean with the head since its symmetrical i already thought of mirroring it except for the body.  What do you suggest for the body? Can I used spline tool for the whiskers of the fox?

Hi! The whiskers should be model by parametric features. The body is probably Freeform. Talk is cheap. Without really trying, it is hard to tell which technique should be use. You just have to do it and iterate through various techniques. I cannot say this is a straight forward case.

Hello @Anonymous interesting project. There are many ways to approach this, without know all the details, it is difficult so say what would be the best way.

I took a quick stab at this and here's what I came up with:

What version are you running? The attached part is in 2018.

Freeform could be utilized but might be a bit too tedious.
