Inventor Crashed, now I'm having issues

So, I was happily using Inventor doing some cable & harness stuff when Inventor crashed on me. Now I'm having two issues:

1: When I restarted Inventor, everything opens fine and works for 1-2 minutes, then it complains about not being able to find a license. If I go to About Autodesk Inventor Professional>Product Information BEFORE it complains about no license, it shows the correct license server, Serial number, license ID etc. If I go there AFTER it complains about no license, the serial number, and license ID are blank. Sometimes, Inventor will sometimes crash when trying to view this info.

After this, I get the no license popup every 1-2 minutes.

Also worth noting, I can borrow a license no problem, but it still pops up every 1-2 minutes saying the license is borrowed.

All other users on the network are unaffected, it's just me that this is happening to.

and:

2: Whenever I try to do a nailboard drawing for any harness, all/most of the wires in that harness suddenly turn to dangling wires(red label, yellow triangle). If I open the model, the wires update and are fixed and no longer dangling. When I switch back to the drawing, Inventor crashes again.

Something seems corrupted.

Win 7 Pro 64

Inventor Professional 2017

Build 256, release: 2017.4.2

Inventor installed as part of Product Design Suite Ultimate, all the other apps in the suite work fine.

Single server network license with multiple users, no one else is affected

Did you restart your PC?  Or are you just going right back into Inventor?

Did you send a report when it crashed?

Windows 10 x64 -16GB Ram

Sorry, I knew I forgot some info.

I have restarted the PC a few times now. As well as the license server. Stop/start/reread license file and all that.

I did not send a crash report.

I also attempted both a repair, and a reinstall from the Windows control panel. No effect.

When did you last upgrade?

I am wondering if for some reason it is seeing an old version and getting confused.

Before 2017 we had 2014.

We've been using 2017 for over a year now with no issues.

2014 is uninstalled, and has been for several months.

Is your Inventor based on an suite installation?  Do you have different suite products in your license file?

Yes. It was installed as part of Product Design Suite Ultimate 2017.

The other products (I.E. AutoCAD) seem to work fine with no issues.

Also, I just submitted a crash report related to the cable & harness wiring crash.

Ok, so you say you have been fine for about a year.  Have you done other cable harnesses with no issues?

Yep. I've done several harnesses over the past several months with no issues. (Other than the occasional crash, which seems about normal for Inventor)

Everything was working fine until the crash. Now I'm having the licensing and constant crashing issues.

I am starting to wonder if this particular harness somehow when it crashed, corrupted the file giving you what you currently have.

My only other thought is wondering if there has been any major improvements software downloads or updates that have happened recently that might have caused this.

Speaking of updates, you are up to the latest with yours, right?

@J-Bowers

How Inventor licensing works since you have a multiple types of license.

When Inventor or Inventor Pro is launch under you condition, Inventor always grabs the lower license or license associated to Inventor standard.  When you start using Inventor Pro functions it tries to swap out Inventor standard license with an Inventor Pro license.  When it can't be accomplished a message is issued stating there's no license available.   However in the Inventor 2017 release there was a licensing issue.  https://synergiscadblog.com/2016/06/21/cascading-order-of-autodesk-inventor-professional-network-lic...

In the end make sure all users using the 2017 version that they must have all the latest updates or the incorrect license is pulled and you may run out of license.   Granted this has nothing to do with the crashes but it may sort out your licensing aspect.

Yessir, I'm vaguely aware of how Inventor uses cascading licensing. (I was not aware that it always grabs top tier license upon launch, tho.)

What's interesting is that when I first launch Inventor, I can see that I'm issued the "ultimate" license. (Evidenced by the License ID of "86689PDSU_2017_0F" in the license manager on my workstation, as well as looking at LMTOOLs on the license server) But then 1-2 minutes later I get the license error.

Also, looking at the LMTOOLS on the license server I can see that there are still plenty of ultimate, premium, and standard licenses still available to be issued when I'm getting this error.

Yeah, that's kinda what this feels like. I'm just unable to articulate it very well.

We have had no major updates or changes recently.

We are on version 2017.4.2, but Autodesk shows that there is a version 2017.4.7 available, but when I click the link I'm taken to my product updates page saying there's no updates available...

I'm just going to restore my PC from a backup a day before the crash happened. I've already lost way too much time to this.

Hi! Could you send me an email ([email protected]) directly? I would like to take a look at the crash report and understand the issues better.

Many thanks!
