Hi all,
Lately my Inventor assemblies have been becoming corrupt, crashing and and not running properly. We are a mostly custom shop so we make a lot of changes on a daily basis and it seems that every time I start with a little bit older assembly (8 monthes to 3 years old), or start with an assembly that was originally older and not newly remodeled inventor ends up failing. But it's never right away. It has gotten to the point that it's hard to get anything accomplished with out an error or crash.
Normally I am able to copy a folder containing existing parts and assemblies and save it in a new location under a new project and then modify it to create the new design. in the last few months though, when I use an older model, it seems to not be as smooth. I am able to copy it, open it and manipulate every part without issue for some time. Some times a day, some times 4 or 5 days but then it slowly gives me the error (did not produce a meaningful result). I close inventor and start it over and then can usually work for a little while before it happens again (maybe and hour or 3) but each time it gets more frequent until I cant change anything without the error. After a long frustrating time dealing with that then It will pop up that a part is failing or corrupt, but it's never just a part, if i completely delete that part then another one will fail a while later and it's a never ending cycle where I can't get anything done! The most recent 2 times ( this week) i was able to work for a day before it said a part was failing and wouldn't work. I deleted the entire project and copied a toatally different one and it took a day before a part failed and then it just crashed inventor everytime I tried opening the assembly. I deleted the corrupt part from the folder and was able to open the asssembly but it's only a short matter of time before my next error. I'm not sure it's an inventor issue but something is corrupting my files. It seems to work with new assemblies where all the parts are freshly remodeled but we don't have the staff or the time to do that with every part or file. Does anyone have a solution or idea what the heck is going on?? We're still running Inventor 2014 as we upgrade every 2 years but no one else in the office has the same issue. A coworker and I got new computers that are identical maybe 9 monthes ago and he has no issues. I'm out of ideas and beyond frustrated. Would be nice if there were a phone number to call autodesk and explain this in a quick manner and try to figure this out quickly. My computer has no issues with any other programs at all.
Thanks!!!
Rick

As @JDMather pointed out.. Are you getting the INventor Error Report Dialog?
IF so, let it crash again, select the report details, hoover over the file called dmpuserinfo.xml and it will tell you where its located. Edit that file using notepad or an xml editor. Remove your serial # from the file and save it using a different name. Attach it here for review.

You should also share what your file organziation system looks like right now. I could easily ask 20 questions here, but give us a snapshot of...
Where you access your files (local or network)
How you reference designs from one project to another (included IPJ, Libraries, etc)
Where your design data is stored (local or network)
Does your co-worker work on the same files at the same time?
If you are working on the network how many hops does it take to get to your actual server? This would require an internal trace.

Running windows 7. I'm not sure of the service pack or exactly to find that out but we don't update very frequently. At this moment I can't get the error but it's only a matter of time.
As far as the network, there are 6 of us and our files are all on a local server, and nobody opens or edits the same files at the same time.
It has been setup this way and working for 7 or so years now and I'm the only one in the office having these issues....

Welcome to the forum.
If you have all the updates, service packs, patches installed then let me ask you: These older files have been MIGRATED to the version of Inventor?
In my experience that's what causes most of the crashes and corruption and you should alwasy make a full backup before migrating.
here is the article on how to migrate with task scheduler.
In the Options dialog you might want to select Total Rebuild to see if that fixes your problem files.

Go to Help>About Inventor to view the Service Pack.
There are 2 for 2014 and 7 updates.

I have looked in the help for that and I didn't find the service pack or which update. In product information, it just tells me things like serial number, product key and license stuff....

Then you are on Service Pack 0 - that is, no service packs installed.
This image is for 2015, but if you had your SP and Updates installed it would be similar to this.

You are correct, mine does not show that. Currently I'm not having the issue so I guess I'll have to wait until it comes up again....
