Inventor Clearance Hole (spreadsheet) Question

I haven't modified an Inventor clearance hole table in years, but a recent question was asked that I didn't know the answer..

 

In the Shaft Diameter section there's 3 columns for "Close", "Normal", and "Loose"   2020-05-29_12-21-26.jpg

 

Is it limited to just 3 columns or can you add additional one...   If I remember the format is set (meaning its 3 columns)...

I agree with you. Just are 3 columns.

Just curios, what other posibility there are in addition to close/normal/loose ?

I'm working with someone in the sheet metal world that over time they have this chart of hole clearances/tolerances they have developed when they stack up sheet metal components in an assembly.   Its there where of working, fabricating and/or assembling and they want to incorporate it besides what's provided.

 

Most likely they will develop additional clearance option (tabs) in the spreadsheet to get past the 3 column limitation.

As far as I am aware it is limited to exactly three columns - no more, no less.  I added clearance holes based on AISC steel manual clearances a year or two ago.  Also made one for hydraulic bulkhead fittings with the recommended hole sizes per the manufacturer.  In both of these cases, there is just a single category of fits, so there is no close/normal/loose distinction to be made.  I tried eliminating the extra columns and it didn't work - I forget exactly what it did wrong, but it definitely wasn't good.

 

My solution in that case was to set all three columns to be the same, so you'd get the right size no matter which class was picked.  It's a little hokey, but it worked for my case where I needed fewer fit classes.  Not sure there is a decent workaround for a situation with more than 3 fit classes though.  You might have to resort to breaking it up into additional standards instead of fit classes.
