Inventor assembly cannot save

Hello,

I have this huge Inventor assembly that cannot save it anymore. I have it in Vault, I get a copy locally and cannot save or save as or save copy as.

Do you have any suggestions? See attached the error messages I get.

I think you have 2 issues related to your model..

and I also think you have some form of corruption in your model.  You may want to review the backup models located in your oldversion folder where your model and related components are saved.

This is usually a permissions issue.

1) Did you check out the files from Vault or did you just do a "Get"?  If you did not check out; you cannot save.  Vault is allowing you to view only (and make local changes only).

2) Check the local file in the folder (not in inventor).  Right click and see if it is set to read only - this will indicated it was not checked out and will not let you save.  Also if you relocated library files, etc. they will not save and will give a long list of errors.  If you did check out and the file is still set to Read only, you should be able to change the permission, save and then check back in.

Go into VAULT and check out the master drawing/assembly and all children.  They should appear as bold in Vault to show they are checked out to you and able to be saved.  You can also change the read-write property to save, but this will cause you issues when you try to check it back into (update) Vault - so do not do this if you can get the Check Out to work.

Um, don't the exclamation marks in the Vault tree mean that the user isn't logged into Vault?

Thank you all for suggestions, here is what happens, will answer separately:

- I've tried "Refresh" as in article and didn't change anything

- I don't have Older Version folder as I clean it often; I may ask the user who is in charge of this project

- I tried to open from Vault within Inventor

- I tried "Get" the files from vault and then open straight in Inventor

- I opened the files logged in or out of Vault, same result

- by default, when Getting files from Vault they are read only; first thing I remove the read only check in windows explorer, then open the file in Inventor

- I dont have libraries components

- I can check them out from Vault but that doesnt help; in the end I have to undo the check out as I cannot update with newer versions from Inventor (because I cannot save any changes)

- your suggestion about zipping was a good idea

I tried what John mentioned (Pack and Go from Vault) and was not able to "extract" the files out of Vault... it just doesnt want to create a zip/unzip folder; see attached the new error I'm getting. That could conclude that somehow Vault damaged the last Inventor assembly version.

My only viable solution that worked is to get the previous version from Vault; I was able to save the changes. Also, a Pack and Go from Vault of that previous version worked nicely.

The question becomes: how to fix a version in Vault of an Inventor file? 

I assume this should be shared to the Vault Forum.

Both of the pictures you supplied show that the user isn't logged into Vault from Inventor, hence the exclamation marks. Suggest you log into Vault in Inventor and refresh the Vault tree to clear up the tree so we can see more. This simple idea might be the root cause.

As far as doing a Save As to make another copy, why not use Vault function of Copy Design?

What Vault flavour (Basic, Workgroup, Professional) are you on and what release (year)? I'm asking this because if you're using Workgroup or Professional and Release files then these should be locked and versions fully obtainable. If Basic this can become muddled as the security isn't too strong IMO. If you use items I can't add any more as I don't have any experience in this.

Doesnt matter if I'm logged in or out of Vault, same thing. I tried updated the status from Vault, some change but still cannot save in Inventor.

I am only trying to change the model, save and check back in Vault... I mentioned save as or save copy as as they dont work either. 

I'm using Vault Pro 2018, I did copy design and received the attached error.

We dont use items. All files are in work in progress, they are not used in life-cycles. (not these files)

That was a good idea, (Copy Design) everything merges towards a Vault issue...

Hi @radu1234

The question becomes: how to fix a version in Vault of an Inventor file? 

1. If some files versions are corrupted in Vault 
2. Backup the Vault server through the ADMS Console
3. backup and delete all files from your working folder
4. Go to the history tab for the affected file
5. Select "Show all versions"
6. Select an older version
7. Right-click the version to replace the latest files with
8. Select Get
9. Download the version selected
10. Check out files
11. Check the downloaded files in the working folder back into the Vault Server to make these files be the latest version

Once the affected file version is not the latest then you can go back and purge the corrupted versions from Vault. 

Start with the top level like Drawings then the Assembles and then part files. As you cannot purge any files that has a parent link

1. Select the corrupted version in the history tab
2. Righ click
3. Select purge
4. Select Finish

You will have to do this one file at a time.

If you cannot get the file to open in Inventor correctly copy design will not work either.

Hi Jason,

That's my "possible/partial" solution, restoring a previous version to the latest. 

Something else that I was working on it, I removed all the subassemblies and other components from the local Vault location, logged out of Vault so won't get the files from vault... basically I opened the main assy with none files inside... just a blank assy and still gives me the same error notifications.

Unfortunately the file is corrupted; this is the conclusion we reached after researching different options with the Autodesk team support. 

I opened some subs of the main Inv assembly and they are all fine. I even removed everything and still receive the errors. 

This is not a common situation, something happened at saving and checking in the file to Vault.
