Inventor and Gage Design

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has experience using Inventor to do gage design
for automotive manufacturing. I have a chance to get a job doing gage
design but have not been exposed to that type of design work in several
years (date me: Personal Designer, Computervision CADDS5 and UG V13).

Anyway, they are specifying that all the locating pins be in exact datum
positions
and the part must be in car position. etc, so I will apparently not be able
to use
regular type constraints. I am wondering if anyone has any pointers for
using
Inventor in this type of design work, or maybe links to Gage design
standards,
etc. I think the best possible method might either be to use the iMaster
method posted at http://www.mymcad.com/kwik/iMaster/iMaster.htm
or perhaps using the positioner.ivb program. Otherwise I am looking at
inputing
workpoints at absolute coordinates and then somehow constraining items
to those. Any and all help appreciated.

TIA,
Bob Schader

Yes I have gage design expierence in Inventor.

Go ahead and put the part in "car position" and constrain to the part
datums. This is how the part will be machined and it will give you the best
repeatability and coralation for your gage.

Good luck to you.
