Hi!

How to turn off the visibility of the Orbit of Rotation? It is very annoying.

Hi! Are you running an Add-In? My 2023 does not seem to have that icon.

Many thanks!

I thought that pivot indicator was part of the new Shift+Middle mouse button/wheel functionality described here: https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2023/ENU/?guid=GUID-5DF5F44E-5AFB-42E9-B9B5-704D382A31A7

The help file doesn't mention it, but it also allows you to first select any vertex/edge/face then Shift+Middle mouse - and it orbits about that selection.  I guess it's personal preference, but with other applications using Shift+middle mouse, it makes transitioning between them easier.  Thumbs up from me 👍

No idea how to turn off the luminous green ball though!

Hi Peter, the green ball disappears when you let go. I'm guessing it is there to show where it is orbiting from so that you understand the behaviour.

Yes, it's shift + mouse3 functionality, but it would be nice if i have an option to disable it.

Thank you for your feedback!

This is actually an intended change in Inventor 2023 for the orbit with MMB. The intent is to improve the orbit behavior for long or slender models.

  • In Inventor 2022 and previous releases, when using MMB to orbit a slender model or a model which is off the screen, the model will always fly out of the screen without constrained orbit in the window.
  • In Inventor 2023, using MMB orbit has been constrained to the pivot center (green ball) , where it will set the orbit center into the point nearest to the mouse if the model shows off screen, and always using the center of the model as orbit center if the model shows in the window. To make the center point easy to be detected, that is why it was shown on the model.

Please let us know if you still think the green ball should not show out during the orbit.

-Lisa

@LishuangLu

There are problems with this option as well. In complex assemblies, when there are a lot of parts on the screen, the orbit begins to cling to any nearest center of some part. Camera rotation, in this case, is different from my expectations. Sometimes I want to just slightly tilt or rotate the camera without getting attached to the parts. In general, there is some discomfort, but it is not super critical.

I don't feel we need to see it, but then again some might want to see it. I say give a "display option" to either show or not. I do hope that it would not remove the way the orbit command works, because those handles and functionality is good. Just my opinion, thanks.

@Ivan_Sinicyn, thanks for the feedback!

Could you provide us a video to show the problems that you ecountered?

Thanks for your support!

Can you give us an estimation about when will this option be left to the designers inside the program to choose? I really loved orbiting without the pivot point annoying.

@javier.quintanarp, thanks for your feedback! Having an option to control the green center point has been tracked as an user story internally, we will evaludate on how much effort is required for that and let you know once we have more update.

Thanks,

-Lisa

Hello,

I have just updated Inventor from 2020 to 2023. The new functionality "Model Navigation Enhancemen" (https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2023/ENU/?guid=GUID-5DF5F44E-5AFB-42E9-B9B5-704D382A31A7)

is very unstable, especially in case "model partially in view".

In this case the pivot point should snap to the nearest edge/face/vertex of the nearest component, but often in big assemblies it  seems that the software is not able to identified a point for the pivot: the result is that Inventor freezes, and I have to force the shutdown of the program, loosing time and work.

I didn't have this kind of trouble with the 2020 version, and also my PC have a lot of RAM and certified grafich card.

Please, Can someone help me?

It is very frustrating working in this mode....

@g.bolari,

Thanks for your information. Could you please share more information with us? Eg, video for how to reproduce the issue and the machine configuration. If possible, please share the assembly file which causes Inventor hang.

You can reach me via email, rui.wang@autodesk.com. Thanks in advance.

Thanks,

-Rui

Hello!

Totally agree with @g.bolari, at models partially in view the new method of pivoting just takes too much performance to work properly. In case of big assemblies there is a 3-4 seconds delay, which is very annoying and slows down the work significantly.

Also the pivot symbol visibility option would be nice, I would like to turn it off too.

Any updates on this? Could the developers look into this?

Best regards,

Imre Kordas

Now, track it as bug in our internal system. As this is performance issue, team needs more investigation before making a solution for fixing it. Thanks for your information.

Is there a way to go back to the Inventor 2022 configuration? I don't like the new behavior.

I have the same issue here. I would like to see an option to toggle whether the annoying green sphere appears when I try to rotate my model.
