Inventor 2023.1.1 iFeature Extraction error

I have been trying to figure out why I cannot extract a sweep as a iFeature for use in punch tools. I followed the same process I always did but kept getting a error about selecting a unsupported objects.

Now I tested my workflow in many different ways and eventually I downloaded a old Inventor file which someone posted on the forum years ago which has a sweep and it works when I extract, but if I edit the sweep and click on okay without changing anything I then get the same error, which tells me the sweep tool has changed in some way which is not supported by the iFeature extraction. Is this by design or a bug? Below is a video for clarity and I have attached the part here.

Hi Jonathan,

Something seems wrong indeed. Another user reports the same issue involving extracting an iFeature with a feature pattern. I need to work with the project team to understand it better. In the meantime, if the defect blocks your workflow, please uninstall 2023.1.1 update for now.

Many thanks!

No problem, I have informed the customer to use older version but I believe the issue persisted in 2023.1 also. Just wanting to understand if it was something that was now no longer supported but I think so long as Autodesk are aware of the issue then it can be solved earlier.

Thanks for your reply 😁

Hi Jonathan,

I took a closer look. Your issue seems different. I don't think it is 2023.1.1 specific. I need to understand it better.

Many thanks!

Are you sure you using the same file I uploaded? I know you cant work with 3D sketch geometry with the extract iFeature command and I did test it with its own 2D sketch for the path with the same error, below you will see the sweep is made up of two 2D sketches only

Hello Jonathan –

I looked into this and found that in Inventor 2023 we fixed some problems with Sweep along 2D paths.  That “fix” is inadvertently blocking the iFeature extraction…  Unfortunately, I don’t see a workaround for this issue – we will need to fix it in an update release.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Has there been an update to solve this issue yet? I am having the same problems with the extracting iFeatures using the sweep tool

Can you Attach a file here that exhibits this issue?

If you look at my first post I have a sample file and a video that you can try if you want to see the issue, I have just tested Inventor 2024 and the same problem still exists. Now I don't get the error popup but I can't press the "Save" button when I set it to sheet metal.

Here you go. I've tried many different ways of the sweep tool. I've managed to recreate similar shapes with multiple revolve and extrudes but it would certainly be easier if the sweep tool worked.
