Inventor 2022 style library is Read-Only after saving styles from file

Hello, I copied the original Inventor styles from "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2022\Design Data" to our company location. After that I saved there styles from our templates. After copiing I launched Style Library Manager and the library was marked as Read-Only. I have tried it several times and the result is always the same, whether I use Inventor's default style library or our R21 company's style library.

Before saving styles from file I receive message: "Saving style definition will cause the style library to migrete to the current release." After saving the library is marked as Read-Only. It seems like the Style Library Manager R22 does not understand R22 xml files.

Workaround: Prepare and save new styles in Inventor 2021 into Style Library R21. In Style Library Manager R21 remove inappropriet styles. And copy Design data R21 to directory for R22. After that the new Style Library is unlocked and editable in Style Library Manager R22. In addition it does not require Migration from previous release. And also Inventor R22 works well with the new library.
But the problem will appear again when a user save maybe just one new style into the Style Library. Is there any hotfix for that?

Hello @petr_vonasek,

have a look at this workflow, and see if it helps get you write access.

Hi Petr,

This sounds like a bug to me. It should not do that. We had some internal discussion about this issue. Support team is in the process of reporting a bug. In the meantime, you might need to edit the Style xml files manually. I will report back the defect ID for tracking purpose.

Many thanks!

Hello, for preparing styles I use Single User Project with Read-Write option, otherwise I would not be able to save styles into my Style Library. In addition the Style Library Manager works independently on Project settings. Each style save from file leads to Read-Only marking in Style Library Manager. Therefore I am not able to delete or rename a style in Style Library Manager. But it remains possible to save style from file into Read-Only Style Library again. I use this procedure for creating / updating Style Library every year without any problem. So it seems to be a bug in the Style Library Manager R22.

Hi Petr,

The issue was reported as INVGEN-52712. Any Autodesk employee (like Jan) can help provide status update.

Many thanks!

Hi! I just check the status of INVGEN-52712. It is still being investigated. There is no solution yet but the fix is targeting 2022.1 update (July).

Many thanks!

Hi Folks,

While we are still working on a fix targeting 2022.1 update (July), here is a quick fix to the issue that you can try on your machine.

  1. Go to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2022\Bin\_NewStylesLibrary\.
  2. Find Lighting.xml and edit it in a Text editor. Change version from 3 to 4. Save.

After that, the Style Library should be editable.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

i´ve the same problem after successfully migrating a style library from 2018 to 2022.

The lightning version is on version 4 already! But the manager show still write protected.

Any further inputs??

Hi Michael,

Is the lighting style template version 4? Or, the lighting style itself is version 4? You need to change the template version to 4. Please feel free to share the \Design Data\ with me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

thank you for your hint with the "style template"

I did overread that little thing in post before. 🙂

If I changed the lighting.xml version to 4 in both locations it works well now.

  • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2022\Bin\_NewStylesLibrary\
  • ..\Design Data\

Hi Michael and Petr,

Many thanks for the confirmation! Like I said it is a bug. It will be fixed in the 2022.1 update (July). In the meantime, this workaround can help bypass the issue.

Thanks again!

I have found this bug as well, the workaround does not seem to fix it for me unfortunately.

Hi Ben,

The workaround about changing the version of lighting.xml should work. If possible, please share the lighting.xml file on your machine. I would like to take a look.

Many thanks!

Hi Ben,

This is strange. The Lighting.xml is indeed correct version "4" but it still does not work. Something is wrong. Is it possible some styles were not migrated? Did you use Styles Library Manager to migrate prior styles? Or, this is a brand new 2022 install?

Maybe you need to share the entire "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2022\Bin\_NewStylesLibrary" folder in zip. I would like to see if there is another mismatch.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

I am testing workflows with updating styles libraries. The data on my machine is from a fresh install.

For some reason, the default (C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2022\Design Data) stays read only and this blocks me from copying styles to Style Library 2 even if that library is read/write.

If I copy the design data folder from the default location to create a new library the "read only" property sticks no matter what I do.

If I copy my vaulted Design Data folder, manually remove Read Only then it actually removes it and I can edit the styles.

Seems like a permissions problem?

Attached the files in a zip.

Hi Ben,

Many thanks for sharing the files! It looks like one more needs to change. "StudioScene.xml" has version "2." But, it should be version "3."

Thanks again!
