Inventor 2022- Save As issue

Just recently udpated from 2020 to 2022.  Having an issue with two workstations with the "Save As" command.

When the user does a "Save As", the part number in the iProperty is not updated to the new filename. The part number from the original file is maintained.  I have checked this against other workstations and it works correctly there,  just showing up on a couple installations as of now.

I have tried this, but no correction to the issue:

1. Rebooted workstation.

2. Checked they are on the latest update (2022.4.1).

3. Used a different user account.

I guess the next step is to uninstall/reinstall Inventor 2022.

Hi Kirk,

I don't think it is machine dependent. I believe this is a legacy behavior. The Part Number only honors file name when the PN has not been overwritten. Once it has been overwritten, Save As will not overwrite the PN value. To restore the filename-dependent PN, clear it and type in the current file name minu '.' and extension -> Save. After that, the PN will honor the file name again.

Many thanks!

Johnson,

That is not what I am seeing here with 2022.4.1.  When I edit the PN, save the part and then do a Save As, the PN for the new part is the same as the filename.  This is really what I expect it to do.  I have tested this on .ipt and .iams.

I attached a screen capture where I am showing my workflow.  I hope you can see it and I apologize, but this is the best recorder I can find since we no longer have ScreenCast :(.  Here I am editing the PN, saved the iam. Then did a Save as.  Notice the PN of the new iam is the same as the filename.

Hi Kirk,

It does seem that the behavior has changed. On 2022, I can verify the behavior you describe. But, on 2023 and 2024, the behavior I describe seems to hold true. I don't have Vault install, so I am not sure if it may play a role here.

Many thanks!

Johnson,

I do not have 2024 installed, but I do have 2023.  When I try the workflow in 2023, it is the same as 2022.  In both 2022 and 2023, I see the PN is overwritten with filename regardless if it has been edited or not.

Hi Kirk,

I think I see the slight difference now. After you make the change in PN, if you don't save it but do Save As. The old PN will carry over. But, if you do save it first and then do Save As, the PN will be overwritten.

Many thanks!

It seems that the user "karthur1" is experiencing an issue with the "Save As" command in Autodesk Inventor 2022. After updating from version 2020 to 2022, when performing a "Save As," the part number in the iProperty does not update to the new filename http://trollerdude.com/. The part number from the original file remains unchanged. The user has already tried rebooting the workstation, confirming they are on the latest update (2022.4.1), and using a different user account, but the issue persists. They are considering uninstalling and reinstalling Inventor 2022 as the next step to resolve the problem.

Reset Inventor settings to their default values, as corrupt or misconfigured settings can cause issues. Additionally, repair the Inventor 2022 installation through the Control Panel. Verify file https://www.phoneguiding.com/ templates and iProperties settings to ensure the correct iProperty mappings are in place. Finally, check user permissions to confirm that the account used has the necessary privileges.
