Inventor 2022 New File Button Crash

Hello,

When I try to open a new file using the "New" button, Inventor then crashes. The new button has never worked for me from day 1, I instead use the buttons on home screen to create part files.

Thank you,

Daksh

Are you running 2022.2? Are you running Windows 11? Are your templates (summoned when you hit New) located in a network drive or location you have fast access to (try opening them directly using Windows Explorer, and check anti-virus restrictions to access the location if needed)?

In a similar thread from the German forum a simple reinstallation worked to solve this in version 2021:
https://forums-autodesk-com.translate.goog/t5/inventor-deutsch/bauteil-erstellen-inventor-2021/m-p/1...

You could try running Inventor as administrator (right-click the launcher -> run as admin) to see if that works, but most likely it will freeze the same way and you should try the reinstall (control panel -> uninstall -> Inventor -> reinstall).

Thank you for the reply, I tried running inventor as an administrator and all my templates pop up when I hit the new button.

That means it is most likely a user permission issue to the templates folder.

Hi,

@dakshb1 Where you able to solve the issue? I'm currently having the same behavior after upgrading my system to Windows 11.

Because of the symptoms, I also completely wiped my system and reinstalled the OS (Windows 11 for workstations), Microsoft Office and Autodesk Inventor, Vault Professional, Autocad Mechanical/Electrical and Inventor Nastran.

Running as Administrator won't help. Same issue.

All available updates are installed.

Hope you found the solution...

Regards,

Nico Blok.

Hi,

I was able to solve the issue on my computer running Windows 10 Home by right clicking on inventor and then clicking "Run as Administrator" the templates then popped up when I hit new. I recently noticed this issue on my PC running Windows 11 Home, running the program as an administrator did not work for my Windows 11. It seems the problem is present on Windows 11 as I ran inventor on Windows 7 to experiment, the templates popped up when I hit new.

For the time being, what I do to access my templates on Windows 11 is by going to the drive you have windows downloaded on, then go to "Users" then click "Public" click "Public Documents" click "Autodesk" click "Inventor 2022" you should then see a folder named "Templates" from there you can access all your templates.

@blokmech

Hi,

I just solved the issue on my Windows 11, I first ran Inventor as an administrator and then went to the shortcuts section (See screenshot below) from there I added a file path to the inventor templates, my post from before shows where the templates are located. The new button then worked nicely.

This same problem is happening to me in Inventor 2023 on Windows 11, the "New..." button causes the program to freeze. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Inventor with no luck. If I run it as admin I get an error dialogue box pop-up that has some yellow exclamation marks stating "Failed to create folder" and one of them is the path to my templates folder.

What's odd is that if I first click the "Open..." file button on the left of Inventor's home screen to open that dialogue box and then close it, the "New..." file button to open my templates then works fine for the rest of the time I have Inventor running. If I close Inventor and reopen it then it starts hanging again.

I've seen the other suggestions to add my templates folder to the Shortcuts, but I don't see a folder Shortcuts area on the home screen in Inventor 2023 like I did in previous versions.

Same here indeed. I posted my problems with 2023 release already in a different treat (https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/inventor-freezes-when-selecting-quot-new-file-quot-ico...)

The response from Autodesk is that it will be fixed in the patch of July...

Thanks for that reference. Good to know it'll be fixed coming up. Guess I'll have to use the Open button workaround until then.

Wow, time sure does fly, Inventor 2023 is already out. I am looking to upgrade to Inventor 2023 soon so I will go ahead and see if it also has the shortcuts for the file templates to help temporarily solve the problem.
