Inventor 2021 Crashes when trying to open an IDW/IAM from our Chinese office

Our China office created IDWs/IAMs and then sent them over to us to review. When we try to open them Inventor immediately crashes with no warning. Any ideas? Could it be related to fonts or something?

Do any iProperties, properties, or file names from these files contain Chinese fonts? You could try a small subset as well... or do ANY individual parts, even content center parts perhaps, all crash when you attempt to open in your workspace?

From your pictures you can also see how the files were saved in 2021.3 and you seem to be running 2021 raw. Try updating as much as you can before opening. And maybe, just share an individual bracket or dummy sample from your package that does not disclose any NDA.

Thanks for the reply and idea on the small part. I went to open a small bracket, but decided to start with the top level IAM that is detailed in the IDW, it actually opened no problem. So the issue lies solely in the IDW. The file name is just a standard number generated by our system, so no font issues there.

I went into the iProperties in Windows Explorer and nothing jumped out at me as unusual. Unfortunately, this IDW being the top level, I can't share it and it is the only IDW I have.

Any other ideas?

I will see if I can get our version updated to the latest in the mean time.

Thanks again.

Are other drawings in the package working ok? Is your drawing made to detail more than just the one (top) assembly?
Do you get any error dump logs when Inventor crashes and have you submitted those from the prompt that usually appears during a crash?

I was able to open the IDW of a lower level new drawing that they created. The Chinese text doesn't load, but that is typical to drawings we have received in the past. So it doesn't look like it is font related. They must be inserting something into that IDW that our Inventor isn't agreeing with. We get the typical crash report interface, but no other error messages.

We have a 1 part 1 drawing practice, and our data management software only sees the single IAM attached to the IDW. No other files, unless something is embedded. Not sure how to see that without opening.

Hi Daniel,

I have located the crash report you submitted. It seems to be a known crash issue (reported as INVGEN-44321). The defect shows it has been resolved in 2022 and 2021.1 update. I notice you are still on Inventor 2021 RTM build. Please install 2021.3 update followed by 2021.3.3 update.

Many thanks!

Thank you both for the response and help. We are working on getting our users updated now. I will respond later with feedback if that fixes it.
