Inventor 2020 derived component, the chain symbol

Hi!

Hope you all are fine in these days!

I have a question, the chain symbol in the derived component window, what does that mean?

I understand that there is a chain/link from the source file? but i cant have it checket, and then turn off the solid (because i only wan`t to use som epoint in a sketch)

And when the chain symbol is not checked, my file doesn`t update. I get an error "derived objects have had their export status turned off in the source". How can i fix this?

Thanks,

Greetings from Robert.Inventor derived component.PNG

The chain just means the derived part is still associative to the part you derived from. So if you change the master it also affects the derived. If you break the link (cannot be undone) then it will not update.

As for the error this article should do the trick: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Error...

Hi! The error message means that the source to the already derived objects is no longer "exported." For example, you derive Sketch1 from the source part. But, the export status for the Sketch1 is off.

Open the source part and go to Manage -> Author -> Export Objects. This command control whether or not a given object (parameter, sketch, body, and work feature) can be derived.

Many thanks!

Hi Shiue,

That was a nice one 🙂

Because, when i can`t derrive a sketch for example, i go to the source part and make the sketch visible. Then i can derrive it. But whit the "export object" option it`s override/export all? so all the sketch, bodies etc can be derived when you open derived component?

Hi Robert,

The Export Objects command controls whether or not a given source object is "open" or "available" to derive. It will affect all derived parts that reference the same source part. The exported objects are available for deriving but they are not automatically derived unless you include them.

Many thanks!

Good morning,

I do now have the "same" problem. The sketch is visible, it is "export object" but it will not come up when i derive.
The chain symbol is off, and the master view is activated.

When i got this problem, that the sketch doesn`t show up in the list in the derive, i get the sketch visible in the source file. Now it will not be visible in derive at all...

Why?

EDIT: I am using vault. The source derive file is on C:\VaultWS and the .ipt file i work on is in C:\VaultWS too,  but not into vault server yet.

Thanks 🙂
