Inventor 2019 Unable To Export Building Components As .rfa For Revit

I am unable to export building components to either rfa or ifc file formats.  I get the following error message (below).  When I click the 'yes' button a blank browser window shows up, and nothing loads.  I've tried multiple files with the exact same result.  Any help is much appreciated.

Hi! Did you look at the error in the translation report? Could you share the Inventor file here?

Many thanks!

Hello @travis I think instead of Export Building Components you want to Author Building Components.

Inventor to Revit Family File (RFA) Workflow

If you want to document your workflow with screencast that would be helpful.

Unfortunately the translation report was a blank screen.

I've attached the file.

Thank you very much for the feedback and help!

Thank you for the feedback.  I will try that now and report back.

@travis I opened the file with Inventor 2019 and was able to complete the Export to .rfa with the file, the translation report completed, and open within Revit 2019.

Not sure what would be causing that error, you could try Repair Install and see if that improves anything.

Are you on the most current Inventor Updates?

I tried Author Building Components with no luck.

I tried to repair the installation and got the installation repaired message, but still the same error.

Then I tried one further and completely uninstalled and reinstalled.  Then went to the Autodesk tray icon in windows 10 to check updates, and can verify the Your available updates are installed message is present.... same error.

Each time I get the error message and click YES a blank internet page pops up, and nothing ever loads.

Not sure where to go from here Smiley Frustrated

Hi! This is a mystery to me. I tried it on 2019 RTM build, the same as yours. I am able to export it to Revit without an issue (see attached file). Is it possible that "Autodesk Revit Interoperability for Inventor 2019" was not installed properly? Please go to Control Panel and find the program. Uninstall it. Then, right-click on Autodesk Inventor Professional 2019 -> Uninstall/Change -> Repair Install.

After that, does it work better now?

Many thanks!

Hello @johnsonshiue ,

I'm unable to find anything on Autodesk Revit Interoperability for Inventor LT 2019.  I was hoping that I could find a download but no dice.  Could the fact that I'm using the Light version be the culprit?  I went back and uninstalled all aspects of an older 2017 version of Inventor just to make sure they weren't causing problems.  I still get the same results.

Hi Travis,

I just notice that you are on LT 2019. And, Autodesk Revit Interop for Inventor 2019 is not part of the installed. I need to check with the project team to understand the behavior. In the meantime, you may want to export it as .adsk. Revit should be able to import .adsk files.

Many thanks!

Hi, Autodesk Revit Interoperability for Inventor is essential to export .rfa and .ifc, but this component is not included in the Inventor LT installation.

You can try to use Configurator 360 to export .rfa with Inventor LT, here's a topic for your reference, a video about settings in Configurator 360 and how to upload files,

hello @EvanGu

Thank you for the information!  I must be looking at the comparison all wrong then.  I was really hoping to get the features stated on https://www.autodesk.com/compare/compare-features/inventor-vs-inventor-lt .

inventor vs LT.JPGUnfortunately the price difference between inventor LT and Configurator 360 (or full Inventor) could be a deal breaker.  I appreciate the work around idea though, and will definitely look into it.

Thank you @johnsonshiue for the .adsk idea.  I tried that and it worked.

I wanted to close this thread with the answer that worked for me.  Autodesk support provided this to me.

"install Autodesk Revit Interoperability for Inventor from other products that contain it, like Inventor OEM, Inventor professional, the export .rfa function in LT will work"

even with no Inventor OEM or PRO license, just having the Autodesk Revit Interoperability on my PC fixed it.

Hello jav.venegas,

Download the free trial of inventor ( full version ) and your inventor LT
BIM will work. You don't need to open the full version you downloaded.
Just having the full inventor program on your computer allows the LT
version to use its interoperability.

I have the same problem with Inventor 2017. It is because of model complexity. So I always convert my objects to adsk then load the adsk file directly to Project.

As lot of others, I have the Inventor Professionnal license for 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Actually, working on 2018, no matter what the part is, BIM won't export any ifc or rfa file, project blocked Smiley Sad

Hello,

Currently have Inventor Professional 2019 installed. My machine currently does not have Autodesk Revit Interoperability for Inventor 2019 or any other version of this interoperability add-in.

How can I install this add-in now? I've tried repairing my Inventor installation but it does not install the add-in. Do I need to completely uninstall and re-install Inventor?

Thanks

Hi! Simply run Setup.exe in Inventor Install and you will be able to include Revit Interop Component in the install.

Many thanks!
