Inventor 2019 right click issue

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

Recently my coworker faced an issue with the mouse right click button not working. The issue only stopped when he restarted the program. After a while the issue repeated itself and kept repeating even more often. The right mouse button stops working while using Inventor 2019, if you minimize the window and right click on the desktop, the mouse works fine, but as soon as you right click in Inventor nothing happens. As I've mentioned before, only a program restart resolves the issue.
Meanwhile, my computer does not face this issue at all, but it may happen soon enough as well.

Maybe there is a solution that we haven't found yet, I would be glad if anybody could help.

Hi! Regardless, the behavior does not sound right to me. If you find a way to reproduce it, please let us know asap.

Many thanks!

Hello Johnson,

I did a little more research into this issue. It turns out the issue is
related to the assembly templates we use in our department.

Using our own assembly templates, me and all my colleagues get this
right-click issue I was describing earlier when importing .step files.

Using the standard assembly templates provided by Autodesk (the ones
pre-included in Inventor), the issue never happens.

Something in our templates seems to be causing this issue. There is nothing
fancy about these assembly templates so this is a bit surprising. If you
are interested I can send you that template file to see if you can
replicate the issue.

Hi! Yes, please send the template to me johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to take a look.

Many thanks!

Hello! Any news about this issue? Did you checked part template sent by @tgirardJ8ULV ? If there is a need I can send our templates to investigate.

In our company we have exactly same issue and I'm wondering how to fix it?

Bug scenario is identical as @tgirardJ8ULV  described.  This is annoying issue and restarting Inventor every time is time consuming.

Hi Michal,

There isn't much to update unfortunately. I was not able to reproduce it. I will need to dig up some old emails and take a closer look.

Many thanks!

Hi Michal,

I just try it on Inventor 2019.5. I still cannot reproduce it. Are you able to reproduce it persistently? If yes, please share the files and steps. I am more than happy to try.

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue

Reviving this old post, I am using IV 2021 and am now all of a sudden experiencing the same issue. Working on large assembly, 20k + parts and sub assemblies. I will be working and for no discernible reason my right click function will stop working. Also have to then restart IV (don't have to reboot my pc) before the function is restored. I cannot figure what conditions trigger it, and I have the latest updates running. This only started happening in the last 2 weeks.

My hardware setup is a Lenovo Legion AMD Ryzen 7 with a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card, a 3DConnexion wired Spacemouse, a 3DConnexion CAD wired mouse and a standard Logitech bluetooth external keyboard. The laptop has 32 gigs of RAM running Windows 10 Pro.

I would appreciate some input on this.

Regards

I'm having the same issue with Inventor 2022. It seems to randomly happen on larger assemblies and it requires me to restart Inventor.

Also having right-click disappearing in 2022.2.

I found that after restarting Inventor (to get right-click capabilities back), my application options changed (without me making the change).  Specifically, Application Options>Sketch>Constraint Settings>Edit dimension when created becomes unticked.

I've been coming across this issue recently with Inventor 2021.3. For me it happens when I import a step file into my model and I create a joint or a constraint with the step part that comes up sick. I then try to edit the constraint to fix it. When I right click on the mate this error pops up and I lose my right click in the window and the model browser tree. I have managed to replicate the error consistently. Having previously read through the thread I have checked my .Net and have tried the suggestion of turning off right-click wheel menu but found I use it too much to have it off.

Using the two attached step files in a new standard assembly I create a cylindrical joint between the spline sleeve end face and the spline shaft end face. Then I create a mate between the spline tooth side face on the shaft and the sleeve. The 2 faces should have a small gap so it creates a sick constraint. Then I 'show sick' and then right click the 'sick mate' this error pops up and like magic my right click disappears. If this helps to solve this issue that would be great

Further to the above I have replicated it on 2 random step files downloaded from 3dfindit by making a sick constraint then right clicking it to edit and fix. When I right click the error pops up and right click disappears.

Hi Dean,

Were you able to reproduce the exact error consistently? I tried it on 2022.3.1. but I could not reproduce it.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

Yes I was able to do it consistently. Even on another users computer in the office. Currently running 2021.3.

Just tried again with 2 random step files dropped in to an existing assembly.

I have also reproduced it by creating 2 new .ipt part files then exporting those as .stp (AP214). Then I drop the .stp into an assembly and force a sick constraint. When I right click the constraint in the model window it shows the error and I lose right click.

Hi Dean,

I think I must not have followed the steps correctly. Could you record a video showing the exact workflow?

Many thanks!

I missed showing the .stp format as AP214. But apart from that the steps are as follows.

- create 2 parts

- export them as .stp AP214

- add the parts to an assembly

- force a sick constraint

- right click the sick constraint in the model window

- error pops up, click ok, right click is gone

Hi Dean,

I am sorry I still cannot reproduce it. Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the graphics driver is updated. All applicable Inventor updates are installed. Close all applications and clean up %temp%.

Another possibility could be related to corrupted Appearance Material Library. Go to Project settings -> activate Autodesk Material Library and also Autodesk Appearance Library. Does it work better now?

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue,

Perhaps you should have someone else try it as well. I've been able to consistently reproduce this error and my autodesk material/appearance libraries are turned on in my Project file. A STEP file that's been drug into an assembly WILL cause constraints to break. If you right click on a constraint associated with a step file in an assembly, the right click will stop working until the application is restarted.

Hi Folks,

Our project team tried it out with a custom project (as opposed to Default project). The defect can be reproduced now. It has been reported as INVGEN-63342.

Many thanks!

I import STEP files of hardware and such into a local "Downloads" folder, open them up from Inventor (opens as a part file), copy from the model tree and paste them into my assembly.  I do this to try out ideas.  (when/if I'm ready to commit, I'll save the part as a unique company part number in my work folder and check it into Vault)

I can make a constraint to the new component but if at any subsequent time I try to edit the constraint, I get "The system cannot find the file specified" and the RMB no longer works until I restart Inventor.  It doesn't matter if the constraint is "sick" or not.  It doesn't matter if I try to edit it in the model tree or on the screen (by showing constraints).  It doesn't matter if I try to edit the constraint under the mating part or in the Relationships folder in the model tree.  I can, however, edit a value or add a value to the constraint in the model tree without an issue.

My colleague says that he just saves the part in his local work folder as soon as he downloads it to avoid the problem.  It seems like Inventor isn't recognizing our Dowloads folder in this specific moment?

Actually, in the model tree I never get to the point where I click on Edit.  I right click on the constraint to get to the menu (which includes Edit, Delete, Suppress and many other options) and the menu never comes up.  It's in that moment when the error appears.  Also, I said that maybe it doesn't recognize the folder but actually, the file in that folder is a STEP file whereas the model in Inventor is already a .ipt.  So maybe the confusion is that the file doesn't actually exist anywhere yet at that point.
