Inventor 2019 loading file very very slow

Hi,

When the user open Inventor everything is fine, but when he open a file he need to wait like 30 min atleast before the file is opend. Normal is this around 2 min. How can we fix this?

- Videocard is up to date
- Drivers are up to date
- Windows is up to date
- C:\%temp% << Delete all file in here

- PC have been restarted

- Files for Inventor are placed local on the machine

All these things don't have any effect.

Does anyone have a idea?

Hi! Have you applied 2019.4 update followed by 2019.4.4 update? Also, if you unplug network, does file open speed up?

What is your machine spec?

Many thanks!

Yes Inventor is up to date and unplugging the network doesn't help.

"Does it happen everytime or after start up of windows?"

It happens everytime

Its same spec pc, special chosing for this program and since a week it is very slow. Before that everything was fine. In that time period only windows update came out and where installed.

I had the same problem (we run off a network without Vault)...until I learned all about project files (.ipj) and their effect on search times.  It had nothing to do with hardware at all; just the way Inventor looks for all files that "tree-off" of a high-level drawing (.iam or .dwg).

@Anonymous

With this in mind,

If you edit your Project file and expand the Options node in the Edit Project pane, you'll see the Using Unique File Names option. I typically recommend setting this to No even if you are using unique file names (which I also recommend). This setting doesn't really enforce unique file names, it merely searches for them. So I find it to cause more problems than it solves.

Where I find it to be particularly problematic is when I rename a file in order to purposely break a link so that I can resolve the link to a different file. For instance when working with derived parts and trying to point the part to a new revision of the derived part file. If Using Unique File Names option is set to Yes, Inventor searches every folder/file in the project and takes a long time to tell me what I already know: the file can't be found. However, if I set this option to No, Inventor immediately throws the resolve file dialog and allows me to redirect the link.

In your case where there is not broken link, it might be that it is still doing the search/comparison to see if there are unique file names and that is causing the slow open time.

Anyway, you might try setting this to No to see if this is the problem.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

Hi,

I tried your solution and it did fixed something in the load proces, but still not very fast. Might take a few min less then before, but still alot of time.

Hi! This is still puzzling to me. The hardware looks fine. It is quite similar to some of our internal engineering desktop machines. You mentioned that all files are local. What about Materials and Appearance Library? Is it local too?

Many thanks!

Hi,

Materials and appearance are local too on the system. We are thinking to re-install windows on this device. We encounterd more problems with other programs too last friday. Like Word being slow too for no reason.

Thanks for the help. Ill keep you updated about the status.

Hi Erwin,

Are you dealing with large files (size > 250MB maybe)? We are aware of a Windows Defender issue causing large files to load very slowly. We are working closely with Microsoft to address the issue. The fix may come in form of a Windows update.

You can test my theory by running a different Anti-virus program or switch off Windows Defender for a moment. Then retry the slow workflow.

Many thanks!

Hi Erwin,

It may be Windows Defender related like I mentioned earlier. Microsoft has just provided a fix as part of Anti-Virus update. It is possible your system has the update installed right around the time you were reinstalling Inventor.

Many thanks!
