Inventor 2019 Compression Spring Constraints

I have a spring place in an assembly but I cannot, no matter what I do, seem to be able to make it compress and stretch. I have it set as adaptive. I have watched countless videos and tried everything I have seen on the internet. No matter the type of spring (I have tried a McMaster-Carr spring and made my own) or the constraints, I cannot make the spring move with its surrounding components. Maybe there is a setting that I am not aware of that is preventing this? I am using Inventor 2019. This is for a school project, so I would really appreciate any help. Thank you!

Howdy @Anonymous I see that you are visiting as a new member to the Inventor Forum.

Make sure the part is set as adaptive as well, check out the enclosed file for reference.

Hope it helps!

Hi! Thanks for the reply. I have made the spring adaptive in the larger assembly that includes this smaller assembly,  so it is not giving me an option to make it adaptive here. When I right click, the adaptive button is grayed out. I was assuming that is because it is already set to adaptive somewhere else?

What is your goal with this compressing spring?

Animate Parameter (in Inventor Studio) is a far easier technique for animating spring.

The goal is that the pin will make contact with a guide plate (not shown) and the spring will compress with the pin and then as this whole assembly moves, the pin will slot into different positions. So ideally I want to be able to move it in the assembly and perform simulations with it. I have attached a picture of the assembly with the tracking plate. Thank you!!

Environments>Dynamic Simulation

Add a Spring Force.

Is there a way to constrain the spring and pin to move dynamically with the slots in the model?
