Inventor 2018 What's New Ground and Root Dialog Box

Anonymous
Not applicable

Just installed Inventor Pro 2018 (Build 112) on a new computer. The 'Whats New' mentions a new dialog box for the Ground and Root Component.

My installation still behaves the old way. I do not get the Dialog box and the command still shows 'Ground and Root Component' and not the renamed command 'Ground and Root'

Is there a setting that we need to change to get the new functionality?

Hi! The new Ground and Root is available as part of 2018.2 Update, not in 2018.0 RTM build (the one you have). Please log on to your Autodesk account and install 2018.2 Update.

Many thanks!

doh.. Johnson beat me.

The whats new for 2018.2 release mentions/includes those updates..

You do not have that installed and are just 2018 (no updates)..

So install the 2018.2 update and benefit from a long list of bug fixes and additional improvements.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2018...

See the "Whats new" for each update and initial 2018 release in the menu on the left of that page..

Thank you. Whats weird is that my Autodesk desktop app tells me that 'Your available updates are installed'. It doesn't tell me that there is the 2018.2 available for update.

I downloaded the 2018.2 and installed it. It now works.

Thanks again

Hi,

Is there a possibility to set a default for the three options in this dialog box so the box doesn't pop up every time you want to root a component?

Thanks

I would like this as well.

In my workflow I use Ground and Root frequently.

The good news is that if you are doing the same operation to a series of parts in the same assembly, hit "Apply" to leave the dialog box open so you can select the next part with the same options. Alternatively you can select multiple parts and do the operation all in one hit.

This!  I have a customer complaining about this very thing.  We'd love to see a "Don't show this again" option or something similar.  Adding this dialog box has only added more clicks for them.

Hi Eric,

I know the customer you are working with. I am reviewing the issue list. This particular request came from existing users also. I helped author an idea to leave a record. The implementation was done under extensive discussion on Beta forum and user study. There is definitely room for improvement. If possible, please encourage the particular customer sign up Inventor Beta program in the meantime.

Many thanks!

Thanks, Johnson!  I appreciate your help working with all of their issues.  I put together an Idea post to add that checkbox, hopefully that doesn't double up on the one you wrote.

I'll see if they can sign up for the Beta program.  They may not, just due to lack of time to evaluate beta products.  We'll see.
