Inventor 2016 memory accumulation

I have noticed today, after months of no issue, that my Inventor 2016 is not letting go of memory when files are closed.  This is the first time It has done this since I started working at my new job (6+ months), and I can't remember changing any settings recently.

I have worked longer days, with larger files, and been able to open, close, and flow through files with no problems.  Today I noticed my RAM build from 6.5GB to 11GB while working in an increasingly sluggish Inventor.  I restarted the program and it has risen again from 6.5-11GB just from opening and closing inventor files.

Has anybody experienced a similar issue?  Is the some option that was changed which keeps Inventor from releasing memory of previously opened files?

The rest of my computer functions normally, AutoCAD, internet, email, ect.  Inventor is the only thing slowing down.

Hi! A few things to check. Is there only one Inventor.exe running? Are you accessing files from network drive? Did you clean up %temp%?

Many thanks!

Hi @J-Camper,

Are you working on a large assembly? How many individual components contains in such assembly?

What's your hardware configuration such as CPU, RAM, Graphic card, etc?

Have you tried the Express mode? It might help you a little bit. Refer more -

http://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2016/ENU/?guid=GUID-34C9AE4C-EDA7-4E46-AD51-3383A67FF1B9

Hope it helps a little bit.

Yes I only have one instance of inventor.exe running.

No I do not work off a network drive.  I get files from the network through vault and put them on my hard drive to work.

I'm not sure where to look for the %Temp%, can you expand on this?

The assemblies range upwards from 3MB-10MB with anywhere from 30-250 components, and drawings as big as 50MB

I don't believe this has anything to do with my system performance because I have used the same PC without issue for 8 months, but I have an i7-6700 CPU @ 3.4GHz, 16GB RAM, and I'm not sure of my graphics card (it was built before I started working) but it is not stock.

I have never heard of express mode, but I will look into whether or not it will work for me.

Hi! Could you provide your hardware profile? Start Inventor and open a part. Go to Tools -> Application Options -> Hardware -> Diagnostics -> paste it to a text file and send it to me directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com).

It is possible the machine is not using the dedicated graphics card. Instead, it is using an on-board graphics card not suitable for running CAD application.

Many thanks!

Hi! Many thanks for sharing the hardware profile! The only thing I can tell is that the graphics driver seems to be old. Please go to AMD site and upgrade to the latest compatible driver. After that, please report the findings.

Thanks again!
