Inventor 2016 crashes: error code: 1002 application hang up

I'm running Inventor on a Dell Precision M6800:

16GB DDR3 RAM

Intel Core i7-4710MQ CPU @ 2.5GHz

NVIDIA Quadro K3100M graphics card

When running Inventor 2016, the program suddenly crashes without the option to save. When viewing the error logs I receive the application error code:1002 application hang. Any ideas?

Is this a new issue?

How often does it occur?

Was 2016 working fine before?

What changed?

Have you tried to reinstall/repair Inventor?

Are you getting the CER report dialog after the crash so you can report it?

Anything else in the error logs?

Another thing to add to mcqyvr questions..  What is your operating system?

Apologies, I thought I put the OS in my original post. I am running Windows 8.1.

This is a relatively new issue that happens multiple times a day.

Updates are set to manual, so nothing changed prior to it happening. I did however check for Windows/driver updates today and ran hardware diags.

Nothing else is listed in the error report except for the given ID and "application hang" title. It says to look in the Action Center in control panel for more information, but nothing is listed about the error itself.

I haven't seen any CER reports yet.

Still waiting on a CER report, however it seems to be happening mostly when using the 3D mouse.

Are you using a 3D Connexion device?  If so for a test, uplug it and unload its add-in in INventor (Inventor Add-in Manager)..  Restart Inventor and see what happens.   You may also want to consider updating your device driver too if you think the issue us related to the device.

Ok, are there any video settings that should be done in order to optimize performance? My current video card allows 4gb of dedicated memory.

Yes, a 3D Connexion, Spacepilot Pro. Do I need to reload anything in Inventor after removing the add-in?

No you are just telling Inventor (add-in manager) not to load the 3D device add-in.  All the software is still installed but just not loading when Inventor starts.

That didn't make a difference. What I ended up finding was that the graphics card driver had a update that I overlooked. After installing the new update and messing with the graphics settings, it solved the problem. Thank you all for your help!
