Inventor 2009 Slowdown Over the Network

Hi,

We've been experiencing servere slow down's and crashes at random times and random lengths of time while running in Semi-Isolated mode with our files stored on the Network (some workspaces are local and some are on the network).

All the hardware has been replaced: user desktop, cabling to the server room, switches and even servers.

I posted a Powerpoint slide in the customer files (Inventor2009_Slowdown_OvertheNetwork) that shows Event Viewer error messages from my computer this morning.

Any idea what the error messages mean? and what we should try next?

Thank you for your help,
Mike

You can pst an attachment here, eliminating the duplication of
posts....

Here's my reply from customer-files:

You are running a network version, right?

The ADLM service is stopping randomly on the service, denying
a license. Nothing to do with the project type.

However, Semi-Isolated is prone to errors, hence it's not
recommended. Exact same workflow is in Autodesk Vault.

Hi,

Thanks for the relpy.

Sorry I didn't mention it... that's the crazy part of this... all the computers have standalone installations.

We also have 10 network licenses, but I haven't check the event logs of any of the computers running the network version of Inventor.

Network version have local installs, but require a network
license server. Do you have Single User licenses or all network versions. Talk
to your IT dept or reseller about your licenses.

We currently have 32 Standalone (Single User) licenses that are installed on the Designers and Engineers computers.

The 10 Network licenses are used for Managers and Manufacturing.

The network slowdowns affect everyone.

The Event Log is from my computer which has a Standalone (Single User) license installed on it. I checked another designers computer and he had the same entry, but a different timestamp on it.

It's very frustrating because the slow down times and durations are random.

Thanks,
Mike

We got the same problem, in a random time, unable to save the work we go on My Computer and all the mapped drives are unable to reach... like the vault.
After closing an application like Outlook sometimes the re-appear and we return on Inventor and all is correct... for saving
Very strange
We have 3 stations standalone on 2 the problem is there and the third never see that...
Thanks

plase check your ANTIVIRUS software . from my expirience thats what causing the problem .
How to check? remove the antivirus software and let the engineer work for a few days.

Disable is not enough. One of our customer with 20 inventors had a lot of problems with working over the network . Inventor lost connection to the server , worked slowly and in general the performance was very poor , the antivirus was symantec 10 . Once removed all the problems dissapeared .
Now they are running with AVG without any problems .

We're using Symantec 10, and we have exceptions set for Inventor file extensions and lockfile.lck (only for File System Auto-Protect). We're running over a gigabit network which is rock solid. I can't think of any problem we've ever had that could be attributed to Symantec, other than slow load times before the exceptions were implemented.

I never remember to disable it when installing Inventor, and we have no problems at all (that's why I don't remember to disable it, of course).

I think you should remove symantec 10 and install AVG ( free) and do some testing .
Thats exactly what we did in our case and now we have a happy engineers that can work and very angry IT manager because he had to ditch his favorite Symantec .

Can I just confirm what you are saying... Remove any virus checking software from your computer! Is that your honest opinion?

I work in a school and we are having real slow load up times for Inventor (pupil dependant as some are fine) and there is no way I would ever dream of removing the Virus software and I have to use the type the rest of the school does. So any other ideas?

Hello ,

I said you should remove Symantec and install AVG antivirus ( its free software) . This is how you check if the problem is in the inventor or the antivirus . I dont know why the install of AVG escaped you . Secondly I was talking in respect to the productivity of a company. If engineers don't work all the branches in the company start to shake. Beacuse you are in a school then you can take it easy, contact Autodesk Support and dont be suprised when they will tell you to stop the the antivirus and try again .

Good luck

I hadn't seen ur post of AVG... it was a couple of post before that I had read.

I have no authority to change the virus checkers... I have Sophos and Sophos it will stay.

My problem is that Sohpos is on all my machines, including mine yet it takes me 2 minutes to load and some of the pupils start quickly, but others can take anything from5 to 45 minutes.
