Hi. I am going to buy a new laptop, which among many other purposes needs to be capable of running Autodesk Inventor. I am considering the Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga X (http://www3.lenovo.com/no/no/laptops/thinkpad/x-series/Thinkpad-X1-Yoga-2nd-Generation/p/22TP2TXX12Y) which I am pretty sure will work appart from the graphic card.

Processor
Up to I7-7600U Intel® Core™ i7 vPro™ processor
Operating System
Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
Display
  • 14" WQHD OLED (2560 x 1440) Touch 300 nits
  • 14" WQHD IPS (2560 x 1440) Touch 270 nits
  • 14" FHD IPS (1920 x 1080) Touch 270 nits
Graphics
  • Integrated Intel® HD Graphics 620
Memory
  • Up to 16 GB 1866 MHz LPDDR3

Will Integrated Intel® HD Graphics 620 manage to rund Autodesk Inventor?

Yes it will work but not as well as a dedicated card will.

If the performance becomes an issue you could always add a external video card later if your laptop has a Thunderbolt 3 Port. Which the Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga X does.

Sometimes you just need a good old reboot.

Hi I think to buy this laptop is a wrong decision because in this price you can buy a greater, more powerful, suitable laptop for Inventor. See the system requirements of Inventor Professional 2018 url https://goo.gl/LgzCt7 .

If this is true, I am very interested to hear which you would propose.

But before you could be able to give me that recommendation, I need to let you know the criteria for buying this laptop: First of all I need a thin and light laptop to carry with me, secondly I need it to be a 2-in-1 or have detachable display, so I can use it as a tablet, thirdly I need it to have a pressure sensitive pen. The 3D modelling is only something I need it to be able to do from time to time when I am travelig to clients.

Based on my criteria, do you still have another computer you would recommend for me, I would much appreciate hearing about it.

Hi, Johannes first of all I recommend you to buy mobile workstations but as you mentioned you want 2-in-1 laptop/tablet  instead of mobile workstations. So it is extremely difficult for me to find the proper laptop/tablet of that kind. You may purchase HP Spectre x2 ( https://goo.gl/tTNCwU ) or Surface Pro ( https://goo.gl/tNZDQf ). Feel free if you have any questions.

I have considered both the 2-in-1s you suggest, and believe the yoga x1 is better suited. So I guess I will stick with that. But thank you for your suggestion.

Is this still true of autodesk 2018? 2019? I have 2 * 8 = 16 GB of RAM and an i7 8550 quality processor and decent storage but I am nervous that my UHD 620 graphics card is gonna let the whole cpu down. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

What are you planning on doing with Inventor 2018 and/or 2019?  Are you making large models, complex one, or is this for school work?

Right now, I am just learning it for my school robotics team, but in the long run I may be working on larg(ish) projects but obviously not entire robots maybe just singular sections or contraptions.

Thanks!
