Inventor 2018 - Sheet Metal flat pattern is invisible

I have a sheet metal part which I have developed and when I 'Go To Flat Pattern' it is not visible and it does not indicate that there are any errors. It is the only part in my sheet metal assembly where this happens and in a previous project with a part that has similar features (this part is just a scaled up version of the previous one) I did not have any difficulty. I can import the folded part into a drawing fine but the flat pattern is invisible.

I have attached the part for you guys to take a look at an hopefully provide a solution. I'm sure its something simple but I can't complete my drawings to send out for manufacture.

Thanks.

It is not an Inventor "error".

I cannot open your files because I use 2016 version.

However, I am able to review your file in window explorer. This may occur when you apply some "dissociated" 3d Model feature(s) in the sheet metal environment.

You may separate your part into 10 files - 1 section per file. Then assemble them in IAM file.

i got it to unfold by deleting the flat pattern already developed and then highlighting a face before creating a new flat pattern.

There are a bunch of errors in the flat pattern.

that is not good advice for sheet metal practice, it maybe in your company but not in the real world.

This is not the first time i have noticed that when someone has an issue you suggest make an assembly rather than use good modelling practices to create the part.

Just my opinion

Agreed cad.manager. Seemed a strange work around but did not address the part problem. I’ll post tomorrow how I get on .

Thanks.

digging further into this for you the errors in the flat pattern can be resolved by editing the sheetmetal style and changing the 3 bend intersection setting to Intersection.

Understand it is your opinion. But "good" or "bad" may depend on a number of factors...

Yes, by some reason the Flat pattern doesn't like "Round with radius" option in the Corner relief shape settings. All other options work fine.

Cheers,

Igor.

Igor

thanks for confirming my findings.

I'm 50-50 on it being an "error" in the software but more likely just one of those "perfect storm" parts that we all create from time to time.

Dear Marius,

It would be more helpful if instead of fishing for "tick marks" someone at Autodesk had a look at the file and offer an explanation - why the flat pattern in this file fails in the first place. I, for one - would like to hear an explanation. While the workaround was offered - it is hardly can be qualified as a solution.

Best Regards,

Igor.

Hi! I believe this is a bug. Although deleting the flat pattern and recreating it helps, it should not be necessary. The entire flat pattern was missing. It is wrong. Changing the 3-Corner Bend Relief (Jacobian corner) to Intersection does get rid of the error. However, it should not necessary either.

I am sending this case to the project team and see if we can fix the behavior.

Many thanks!
