Installed Inventor 2017.4.1, am still getting "Update 2017.4.1 available" emails

Why, when Inventor crashes (in the past ~week or so) do I keep getting the "Maintenance Update Available for Autodesk® Inventor® Professional 2017" emails from the system at Autodesk?

Is there some magical way that running the installer means it doesn't **actually** install the update.

Here is the about screen from Inventor:

And here is the "Updates" screen from Control Panel on Windows 7:

What the F is going on with this update?

Should I uninstall it and try again?

???

@AlexFielder

When it crashes, are you sending in the crash reports?   Is this when you are getting an email?  Or is Autodesk just sending emails to you?

If you have it installed I wouldn't worry about it..  For example the Desktop App for a lot of people show they need to apply a certain update when its already applied.

If you are experiencing numerous crashes than I would suggest when it crashes to select the report detail button and it in the next dialog 3 files will be listed.  Hover over the file called dmpuserinfo.xml and it will tell you the location.  Get a copy of the file and then private message me and I will take a look at it.  Can't promise anything but I will try.

In the end disregard those emails if you have the update installed.

Hi @Mark.Lancaster,

Yes it is my system and yes, I am sending in the crash reports with comments as to the seemingly menial tasks I am attempting to undertake.

I do have the update installed; at least that is what both Inventor and my control panel tell me.

Next time it dies I will be sure to grab the dmpuserinfo.xml file and upload it here since none of my colleagues here have seen similar behaviour as they have (because of having to train customers) moved onto Inventor 2018; which by all accounts was able to crash 4 times during a demo presented by my colleague @PaulMunford.

Thanks and I'll be back in touch soon (probably too soon unfortunately!)

Alex.

At least you were not told to update your Google Drive App.

Please do not share the dmpuserinfo.xml here..  It contains sensitive information about your Inventor installation.  Like I said private message me...

Hi Adrian,

Google Drive and Google Drive Sync are the cause of a large number of crashes on a daily basis for many products (not just Autodesk products).  Use your favorite search engine to look for "googledrivesync64 strncmp crash" to see some of the gory details.

We've had a roundtrip notification hooked up for a couple years now informing Autodesk users about this issue.  If you believe the roundtrip is incorrect or needs additional information I would be happy to work with you on this.

Hi Mike, don't want to detour this post. I have no doubt google drive was a problem but the wording in the technical bulletin should have been re-install google drive. There was no Update button on google drive and it was very confusing and frustrating to get an answer like this.

Alex, I apologize for my intervention. will stay well out now.
