Installation issues Inventor professional 17 Windows 10

I have gone through a few workarounds and have been working on trying to get this thing installed all day. I'm stumped. Every failed installation attempt faults at the materials library. This is a new computer and an unfamiliar operating system to me.

Log:

1603 is a general error correct? Disk space is no issue here.

Based on your installation log info, your installation is failing on download due to the method you're using.  Either follow the information @JDMather has pointed out or review the information I have below the line/above my signature and follow those steps to download and install your application. Good luck with the installation.

Ok so I went through the browser download and have all of the files, thank you for that advice! I extracted to C: and ran the Autodeskinstallnow.app, now I get this com failure,

 Com Failure.PNG

I tried disabling my firewall and security and ran it again. Same result.

Not sure where to go from here.

No, no,  no.  What does that dialog box say?   Didn't I specifically instruct to NOT use Install Now?

1. How did you extract?   You don't need to extract anything - the file 001 is self extracting.

2. Where did you get that instruction?

Undo all of that stuff.  I am simply perplexed about where you got instructions to do those things?

You already have the downloaded files - so there is nothing further to download.

So you shouldn't be getting any dialog boxes about downloading anything.

Where did I go wrong in my instructions?  Forget Install Now   Just forget that method.

Simply double click 001 of 003 and follow the unscreen instructions.

The compressed install files will self-extract (nothing for you to extract) and self start the installation process.

All you need to do is click OK OK OK whenever it asks you for permission to do something.

So easy! So painless!

Now if you have already really messed things up with your previous attempts you might need to first find the Autodesk clean uninstall instruction.

Actually, did you ever post screenshot of those 3 files here so that I can check the filesize?

Go back and read Post #2 (the first response to your question).

First, I specifically did NOT use install now. Second, I ran one of the three downloaded files and was prompted to extract. All three files prompted the same. Nothing happened after extracting.

Go into extracted files and ran installer to get the com error shown in my last post.

I did this because your instructions as I understood them did not work.

I was not prompted for any of the things you mentioned.

Download now (only option except for install now):

Upon running downloaded file(s):

Just noticed my dim_001 and dim_003 doesn't match yours? I have a much smaller file.

Went back and I have no option for browser download?

Do you have a direct link?

Based on your image the file size you have for the 3 Inventor files are not the correct size.  IN addition I'm unable to confirm if you have part 1, 2 and 3, like @JDMather has in his posting.

At this point  just click on the installation link in my signature and follow those instructions.  Make sure you see the solution that was posted on May 9th that will link you to the software download parts that you need.

I guess it should go without saying now that you should check the file size.

In my experience when users fail (especially more than once) on getting a clean install - they often need to do a bunch of clean-up work before they can over fresh.

I think Mark might have some instructions for that in his links.

I am guessing that you have a poor connection.

Can you try at another location?

Yes, my connection was less than ideal.

I tried it again over a better connection and had no problems downloading this time. All the correct file sizes.

Ran and went through the auto extract same way as it always does.

Got an error after extraction stating the installer couldnt be started and to initiate manually.

I started it manually and got the COM error from earlier again.

This is getting ridiculous.

Post exact screen shots.

If you are getting error from post 8 - you are definately doing something wrong as you shouldn't be going anywhere near Install Now.

Create a Screencast recording of your steps.

This all should be trivially easy.

Fixed it and got it to install. There are multiple setup and install applications in the sxtracted files. I just had to find the right one. Picture of the correct setup file.

Correct setup application is located in the _win_en Inventor folder. NOT the other Inventor folder on top. That istaller functions differently as I understand.

Before when I got the com error I was simply choosing the wrong setup application.
