Turn off all running programs including TSR's (tray programs). Also disable antivirus software.

Do you have room to try copying the whole CD to a directory on your harddrive and running
it there?

It is always possible a CD is bad. 8^(

jerry,

    See if you can copy to a
harddrive directory. Run setup from there.

How about a boot to "Safe Mode"? If that don't do
it, I'd say bad cd!!

Try running the install on another computer. Preferrably one with a
different OS. You don't have to install IV on that computer, just see if the
install routine will start. If not then I'd definately say it's a bad CD.

The quality of these cd's is poor or the machine
labeller is rubbish, this is the second set I have had that rattles and hums. My
premium cdr's do not, maybe its just the eccentric label?

Did you try running the msi instead of the exe?

You should start by reinstalling Microsoft System
Installer (MSI).  You can get that
href="http://download.microsoft.com/download/WindowsInstaller/Install/2.0/NT45/EN-US/InstMsiW.exe">...

That link assumes that you are using WinNT or Win2K.
