Inserting view from model

After downgrading to Inventor 2017, I found that I'm no longer able to add a view to the drawing that is in the same orientation as the model.  I think 2015 had a drop down menu that allowed me to select "use model" and then that is the view that was added to the drawing.  Very useful for reference views, etc...

I currently have to add a view (which seems to always be the front view and it comes in centered on the sheet (not useful)), and then I have to add a projected view to get a view close to what I would like.

As usual, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Todd

correct ...the front view, side, iso are gone

you have the down arrow on the side to use and you can rotate via the cube.

This started in 2016.

yep.. Just hit the down arrow next to the view cube and hit custom view orientation and that will take you to the model and hit the Finish custom view button like before..

Here's some other neat things to know about the newer view placement for Base Views...

Hey, just trying to add value Smiley Wink

I played with this back in beta, but it wasn't advertised well during the inception of 2016.

@ToddPig

You can also right from your part or assembly orientation, right mouse click in the Inventor browser and select "Create Drawing View"..  Base view of your drawing is based on the orientation of your model.
